Belief in Bush: Bush's rating not just wartime bounce
USA Today ^ | May 2, 2002 | Richard Benedetto

There is more to President Bush's relatively high approval ratings than just the patriotic, rally-round-the-flag effect of his leadership in the war on terrorism, a new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll suggests.

Built on the faith Americans showed in him following his response to terror attacks on Sept. 11, the poll shows that almost eight months later Bush has developed an image among most Americans as a strong, competent, leader who shares their values and has elevated respect for presidency.

Oh, let's look at Bush's actions. He's no Conservative in any sense of the word.

You are in a time warp!! That is your problem. You are still fighting the revolution!!!! Remember, we won!!! The fight is over!!!!

Over

Now is the time to work on the souls and the minds of the people who do not agree with your conservative views. It is time to show that Bush is not a right winger but that he is moderate and that he is a president for all the people. Not just you. Not just me. But all the people. That includes people who did not vote for him.

So you disagree with some big issues and some small issues, but you are losing sight of the end by focusing on the immediate. You are dead wrong--the end is to continue by way of elected officials to promote the conservative agenda--the big items--Supreme Court judges, cloning, partial birth abortions, permanent tax cuts. CFR compared to the above is not that big to a lot of people.Remember prohibition--there were enough people breaking that law that it was outlawed. PATIENCE and more patience in spreading our views to others.

When I saw a young black man on CNN saying "he is my heart," I realized just how strongly the impact of a good man doing a great job for a country he loves is (maybe that should be a "great man" doing a "good job").

This is pitiful. It's actually sad.

Why are you even on this website. This isn't about being "moderate", which is just another code word for Liberal in this day and time. If the purpose and goal of FreeRepublic is about spreading Conservatism, how does going along to get along do that, especially when today's center is a Socialist system?

Don't you see it? We're continuing to slide down the slippery slope because there is not enough promotion of Conservative, Constitutional Principles. We have politicians supporting the socialist agenda. You appear out of tune as to what is going on.

I wouldn't doubt that you're a left-winger, and you happen to be using this site as your chat forum. This talk of, "President of all the people", and "Not your brand of Conservatism" says it all. True Conservatism is Constitutional Government, and that is NOT what we have. The only rational direction this country can head is to the right, for that is where the true Conservative, Constitutional, Individualist America was born and should be preserved. And no, the revolution appears to be far from over. It's my guess as it is yours as to whether we will roll over and do nothing.

Perceptions in Washington that his support is slipping — 90% in September to 77% now

Yeah, slipping. He has "slipped" down to totals way higher than clinton had.

" Shallow " ? ROTFLMAOPIMP !

Let's play a bit of let's pretend . You wave a magic wand, and suddenly transform President Bush into whatever kind of president you imagine it is, that you yearn for. He vetos everything you don't like, and tries to impliment ( he'll fail; I guarentee that ) everything, that you imagine you do want. He won't get re-elected ( that's a certainty ! ) , everyone in D.C. will be angry about his term in office, NOTHING you want will have been accomplished, but that will make you happy ? WHY ?

Actually, I take back the " why " query. I doubt that ANYTHING would make you happy; not even a time machine, which would land you in 1790 America . You couldn't survive in that time period. You wouldn't be happy with the politics , back then, either.

Miss Marple, apparently you don't see how little time we have before the whole thing collapses. That is why we need to act now. These little steps, if you can call them that, are barely touching the surface of the Conservative cause.

Thanks for the graph!

If you SQUEEZE Liberals hard enough, most will relent, and admit certain truths. For example, most Liberals I know in NYC are now sorry that Giuliani is gone because we are beginning to be accosted by BUMS in the subways once again under Bloomberg.

Most Liberals are actually "Children" who need guidance and a firm hand to understand the realities of any given situation, which is why it is important to show them limited compassion, so that they can maintain their pride, and save face while they rethink their previous knee-jerk assumptions.

What lots of you don`t seem to understand is the most liberal Rino [ GWB is NOT a Rino] is better for the country than a Rat President. Give you two examples--Afganistan and Klamath Falls. What would have happened to both if ratboy, Al Bore, was POTUS? No President can please everybody all the time, instead of looking at a snapshot, you got to see the movie.

On this thread, we have five recalcitrant libertarian/'Dim'-witted disruptors versus approximately 50 Bush supporters -- I'll take these ratios any day. The Republican future looks bright both in November and 2004!!

If Bush really cared about farmers, he would pull us out of NAFTA and GATT. This stuff only adds to the problem.

A pullout of NAFTA would help farmers, while at the same time we wouldn't have to be further burdeoning the U.S. taxpayer. My goodness. This is common sense, yet so many don't seem to see it.

Higher taxes destroy business. I know first hand. Secondly, "Free Trade POlicies" force American Industries and Manufacturing centers to be shipped overseas or cross the border. Meanwhile, we have more people out of work, good jobs are no longer available, welfare rolls rise, we obtain a huge trade imbalance which leads to the further production of fiat money, which in then results in inflation. The only other alternative is higher taxes, which, of course, further burdens the American family.

When will the people get it?

" STATIST " , the highest of high Libertarian code words, is but another label, and a silly one.

Ronald Reagan didn't do what you want President Bush to do. No GOPer has, in the 20th century. What you are asking for, is a childish fantasy. Your ranting here, wown't acomplish anything at all, and neither will your name calling and demissive attitude. Either learn to live in reality and the world of the possible, or be forewarned that the rest of your life, you SHALL be nothing but an angry , irrelivant, little person, who rails at the wind. : -)

Bush constantly disappionts me lately, the above post notwithstanding. I just don't understand why he sucks up to the Jihadists (Saudi), but then again, I do. Fact is, we need to build up the military: there's the jobs program in a nutshell.
