Belief in Bush: Bush's rating not just wartime bounce
USA Today ^ | May 2, 2002 | Richard Benedetto

There is more to President Bush's relatively high approval ratings than just the patriotic, rally-round-the-flag effect of his leadership in the war on terrorism, a new USA TODAY/CNN/Gallup Poll suggests.

Built on the faith Americans showed in him following his response to terror attacks on Sept. 11, the poll shows that almost eight months later Bush has developed an image among most Americans as a strong, competent, leader who shares their values and has elevated respect for presidency.

But he is moving the country to the right

Yes, I do believe it was said and I do believe it is right. Patience is what you need--you want to have conservative views, yet you don't want to wait and plant the seeds and sow and till the minds of the people. May I suggest that we all unite b/c the Buchanans, the Bauers and the Keyes will not be able to carry the country and if the conservative agenda (limited by your standards) cannot be represented by our president then I do believe that history will repeat itself, Clinton beat Bush 1 (everyone was upset about no new tax promise that Bush 1 broke). Lordy, Lordy--Clinton came in and raised the taxes!! and Gore broke the tie in the senate to raise taxes on the social security of the old timers.

Yep, be careful what you ask for b/c you might just get it. And boy did we suffer under Clinton.

For my response to your questions, refer to post #56.

ADDENDUM: President Bush plans to use his political capital WISELY by focussing on three primary objectives:

1.) maintaining broad support for the war on terror (which will include a military solution in Iraq);

2.) maintaining control of the House and regaining control of the Senate (imperative for his long term goal of 'confirming' a plethora of conservative judges -- to include 1 - 3 Supreme Court judges); and

3.) passing a ban on human cloning (only the single most important pro-life issue in our collective lifetimes!).

Read what you are writing. You are also fixated on labelling. Quit calling people names and quit overreaching to CFR = Socialism. I agree with you re: CFR and how it will deny you some freedoms. WAit for the Scotus. Then you vote out the senators and the congressman who gave the president this "gem" of a legislation.

I would rather go that route than to lose the presidency to the true socialist party.

You and the rest of the " MORE CONSERVATIVE THAN THOU " holy roller fringers around here, are political naifs , dogs in the mangers , and totally lack any kind of political perspective. How dare I say any of the above ? BECAUSE IT'S TRUE !

You piss and moan, whine and whinge, complain, bash trash, and excoriate regular GOPers ; however, your way would insure the absolute certainty of DemocRAT rule for the next millenia ... or however long it this nation lasts. Hillary woud be elected and stay on as queen of the world for life, to be followed by Chelsea . Not a damned thing, that you claim to want, would EVER come to pass. You not only dont know / undersatnd politics; you don't have even a tenuous grasp of hidtorical facts. Oh, and NO , there would NOT be an armed uprisisng ! There wasn't a one after the Senate refused to prosicute X42, and there won't be one ever.

For all of you out there, who claiam to " vote your principles " , or whatever , fat lot of good that does you. Cretins, who voted for Perot, or stayed home, helped to give us 8 long, weary, horrific years of Clinton & Co. The simple truth is, that your perceptions, about what a president ( Republican or fringer ) can / should do, and what what he actually, realistically can / will do , is 180 % ... diametrically opposed to each other. NO PRESIDENT CAN EVER LIVE UP TO YOUR DELUSIONS !

President Bush is doing a good job ! Do I agree with everything he's done ? No, of course not. I am not some drooling sychophant; neither am I some blinded to reality juvenile political naif, who comes to FR and spews specious diatribes about delusional ( and I might add, almost comical) political wish lists that would destroy the very nation I love.

THREE CHEERS FOR PRESIDENT BUSH, AND MAY HIS EXTRODINARILY HIGH APPROVAL NUMBERS HELP THE GOP THIS FALL !

I encourage any of you to join the Illegal Immigration/Invasion threads, for this is a serious issue.

Nationwide, the invasion is linked to problems with the schools, crime, as well as numerous other issues, not to mention your out-of-control tax rates. If you do not fix the immigration problem, all of this is nearly worthless.

We need to build a larger audience for the Illegal Immigration threads. I know, I know, it's not everyone's thing, but this issue will only continue to escalate to the point that it will effect you some time in the near future.

A good place to start would be this following thread.

Thousands March For Immigrants' Rights in Los Angeles

You're totally non rational. You want a Socialist State? You want a president who supports the Social State, and inflated Federal Budget, as well as Wide-Open Borders? If you do, then Bush is your man.

Bush is NOT a Conservative. Bush is not steering the country in the RIGHT direction.

If Bush had run as a Democrat and won, would any of you be supporting him as much as you are?

What makes W. such a great president? Is it that he's not as obscene? Have we sunk so low to support anyone, without argument, for fear of having another #42 in the White House? Or is it that Party supercedes Principle?

Joe Kennedy stroked out in 1961.

I'm just reporting what people were saying back then.

President Bush has emerged as a leader much to the surprise of his critics. As one who campaigned for him, I always felt he would be, but I am delighted to see that those who didn't necessarily support him feel that way too.
President Bush has restored dignity to the White House just as he vowed to do, and something I really like, he has tried to be the President of us all.
Some don't like that, but I do after so many years of them vs us in the Oval Office.
I really believe that United we stand, divided we fall, and I think many Americans feel that way and were sick to death of the former President's constant campaign to separate us all for his political gain.

Ladyinred, President Bush is a Globalist. He is not doing things for the benefit of America. He's doing it for the international order of things.

If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't be so set on amnesty for illegals. If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't have signed CFR. If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't be pushing for "Free Trade". If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't have signed the largest Education Bill in History. If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't be making speeches in Spanish. That's division, my friend. If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't be so wishy-washy on straightforward decision. If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't have signed the Patriot Act. If he truly cared about America, he wouldn't be promoting wide-open borders; he would have sealed them shortly after September 11.

This president's agenda, judging from his actions, appears to be one with the international community, not with the American community.

Hey, have you ever heard of the word

Override?

Since you have been so rude, I will throw a few things back at you.

The country is now talking about whether cloning is right or not, rather than assuming it is, a big jump from a few years ago. The country is beginning to expect tax cuts, something people had givien up on during the Clinton years. Respect for the military is back, in a big way. Patriotism is no longer considered hokey. People expect accountability in their schools. People are talking about privatization of social security.

Now, these are small steps, I will admit. However, a few years ago these issues weren't even on the table.

The idea in politics is to win converts and move as many pepople to your side as possible. Politics is NOT alienating most of the country to impose your ways, no matter how ight you think you are.

If you don't understand this basic truth, you are totally clueless, whici I don't mind saying, since you were so RUDE!!
