[history]
Gov. Jeb Bush on Wednesday suspended Escambia County's four indicted commissioners and immediately began seeking applicants to sit on the board on a temporary basis.
Several recent land purchases by Escambia County have raised a host of questions, some of which involve current county commissioners.

Four out of five county commissioners indicted and removed by the governor!
Million-dollar land deals funneled through a single agent who bought and sold the properties in same-day transactions for the commissioners...
There are those in Escambia County who will be dissappointed if this doesn't get national exposure.

It's just as well that they're outta there. They would have been helping the dems cheat during the upcoming elections. You can bet their potential bail money on that.

Ping and a bump. Unlike Janet Reno, Jeb investigated and then followed through. Janet's follow through wasn't so hot.
To: summer
Not really, he's just following the law. Lawton Chiles would have had to do the same thing.

They would have been helping the dems cheat during the upcoming elections. Unfortunately, according to the story, 3 of the 4 commissioners indicted were Republicans. The strongest case was against the one Democrat commissioner. I was active in the Pensacola GOP in the late 1970's, and since that time, Escambia county has apparently become overwhelmingly Republican. This is due in part to politicians like the indicted William Childers, who was a senior Democrat when I was there, but who switched parties sometime before he left the state senate. Two of the commissioners, including Childers, were accused of Sunshine Law violations. The third Republican, like the Democrat, was accused of actual corruption. The lone unindicted commissioner, who apparently was not at the meeting(s), is also with the GOP.

Good post, thanks. Sounds like Siegelman (Governor) and his cronies here in Alabama.

We had a documented case of a local postal worker trashing absentee ballots. To his detriment, he did it to a kid of a local judge who had already had one or two lost in the system.
This really isn't about Jeb, but about the Escambia county corruption. Jeb wasn't involved when they were indicted or arrested, he's merely doing what he is supposed to do.
It is sad that we've had such corruption in the last decade that when a guy just does his job people get all excited about it.

Childers has been a problem locally since his term ran out in Tallahassee.
FWIW, they're trying to figure out who will get appointed and it is a given that there will be at least one woman and one black, not that quotas or affirmative action will have anything to do with selections at all in the least.

he's merely doing what he is supposed to do.
Well, that is certainly better than NOT doing it. :)

I'd have pinge you earlier on this, but I had to post and run. After the big land deals went through, everyone knew that there would be investigations and probable indictments. The commission meeting have been likened to a three ring circus with clowns in each act.
To: summer
When 4 commissioners get indicted and arrested he has little choice.
To: Eagle Eye
I am still glad he took action.
