Afghan men fight to hold a headless calf in Kabul, Afghanistan, Monday, April 29, 2002, during a buzkashi game between the teams of Panjshir and Parwan provinces. Buzkashi is a sport in which horseriders try to carry the beheaded body of an animal around a flag and into a circle. The game was banned during Taliban rule in Afghanistan, but has come back since the new interim government took office in December 2001. If there were any doubt that these people are living in the seventh century, this entirely dispels it. Let's bring a lot more of them to the United States! First we'll make them citizens and four generations later they'll learn English.

The animal is dead before the game starts. I fail to see the difference between this and football where a pigskin ball is used. Does it really make that much difference whether the skin has been taken off the animal and tanned or not?
My question is do they later eat the calf or goat later or just leave it to rot?

The difference is that a headless, decomposing calf is much more unsightly (not to mention smelly) than a pigskin (football).
