Thong-Wearing Teens Kicked Out Of Dance
A group of parents are calling for the resignation of Rancho Bernardo High School's vice principal, claiming she enforced underwear checks at a school dance, 10News reported.
The dance occurred Friday and vice principal Rita Wilson turned away girls who were wearing thongs, the parent said.
Kim Teal is among the several parents angry with Wilson (pictured, right).
"First thing (my daughter) said when she got into the car was, 'Mom, it was horrible last night. You have to fight this,'" Teal told 10News.
According to parent Alane Garvik, girls who arrived at the dance wearing short skirts were immediately asked: "What kind of underwear do you have on?"
When Garvik's daughter red-facedly announced that she was wearing thong underwear she was told to "go home and put on appropriate underwear," according to Garvik.
Teal's daughter made it in and claims to have witnessed faculty lifting the skirts of girls to assure that the offending underwear was going nowhere near the dance floor.
"Well, I just saw ... a line of people and the vice principal, Mrs. Wilson, she was checking to see what the girls were wearing under their dresses. And she was literally lifting up their skirts and embarrassing them in front of everyone else," one student told 10News.
Parents and students have placed the blame on Wilson, for spearheading the thong underwear checks, even though there is nothing in the school dress code against them.
"It's not their right to know what kind of underwear these kids have," Garvik told 10News.
10News contacted school officials, who all declined to go on camera. But Principal Paul Gentle did say that he is "looking into the situation."
Parents are now asking for Wilson to resign.
Gentle said that even while enforcing the school dress code, it is not proper procedure to ask students what they are wearing underneath their clothes.
He told 10News that he plans to meet with parents sometime this week.
The court will. Bet hereby recorded!
As to the cheap shots....it's irresistable to needle reactionaries that should know better....The mentality you are exhibiting is all School System action = bad. Even if we agree to disagree on this issue, that does not change your stated attitude vis-a-vis any possible action on behalf of the school.
I, on the other hand, think of Monica Lewinski and believe many of these girls are imitating more than just wearing a thong.
But then again, that's just common sense.
What clubs, bars and/or high school dances have you been going to. I've spent lot of time the last few years in clubs and bars (not strip clubs - that too obvious!) where the women are not wearing much - most likely less than what high school girls wear to a dance, and I have yet to see what you describe. Loosen up the foil hat - thongs are not eroding the "moral fiber" of society. You can make an argument for drugs, sex, and violence, but thongs?!?!
It appears Madison Ave. is convinced the Ghosts of Slutmas past, want to relive, or live out the trampy life they wish they had had, through their little girls.
Grandma Might have just bought what was being displayed as hip and trendy in whatever store she was in.....
So you're insinuating that every girl or woman who wears a thong is a slut?
You got it, man---thanks for the cites. Been too long since my Con Law days.
Because that's not statist enough . . .
You are correct. I would never allow my daughter to wear something like that if she were still a child on teenager, and she would not wear stuff like that anyway.
BTW Welcome to FR
I think so. It shouldn't matter to them what sort of underwear the girls were wearing unless they were showing themselves.
Even when I was in grade school, we were told to make sure we wore shorts under our dresses if we planned on playing on the playground equipment during recess.
Yes, showing thong panties at a HS dance is inappropriate...whether the girl is showing the vice-principal or the rest of the dance-floor. IMHO, a written warning to these girls before the dance would have been sufficient and if "noticeably" disobeyed, then send them home or whatever, but "checking" at the door is definitely intrusive.
I bet you would. ROFL
