Thong-Wearing Teens Kicked Out Of Dance
A group of parents are calling for the resignation of Rancho Bernardo High School's vice principal, claiming she enforced underwear checks at a school dance, 10News reported.
The dance occurred Friday and vice principal Rita Wilson turned away girls who were wearing thongs, the parent said.
Kim Teal is among the several parents angry with Wilson (pictured, right).
"First thing (my daughter) said when she got into the car was, 'Mom, it was horrible last night. You have to fight this,'" Teal told 10News.
According to parent Alane Garvik, girls who arrived at the dance wearing short skirts were immediately asked: "What kind of underwear do you have on?"
When Garvik's daughter red-facedly announced that she was wearing thong underwear she was told to "go home and put on appropriate underwear," according to Garvik.
Teal's daughter made it in and claims to have witnessed faculty lifting the skirts of girls to assure that the offending underwear was going nowhere near the dance floor.
"Well, I just saw ... a line of people and the vice principal, Mrs. Wilson, she was checking to see what the girls were wearing under their dresses. And she was literally lifting up their skirts and embarrassing them in front of everyone else," one student told 10News.
Parents and students have placed the blame on Wilson, for spearheading the thong underwear checks, even though there is nothing in the school dress code against them.
"It's not their right to know what kind of underwear these kids have," Garvik told 10News.
10News contacted school officials, who all declined to go on camera. But Principal Paul Gentle did say that he is "looking into the situation."
Parents are now asking for Wilson to resign.
Gentle said that even while enforcing the school dress code, it is not proper procedure to ask students what they are wearing underneath their clothes.
He told 10News that he plans to meet with parents sometime this week.
I have ZERO trust in the public schools. Here in oregon, they teach classes on homophobia these days. There is NO AREA of a kid's life they don't try to get into and screw around with... pardon the term.
It seems more and more these days, that the pervs are hanging out where they can get "authoritarian" access to kids... clergy, counselors, public educators and so on.
If they are "doing it for the children" it seems that more often they are "doing it TO them," as well.
yeah, i had ya pegged as a contrarian!! i like ya, anyway!; )
what you wear does not dictate your morals, but you should not be surprised that people have certain expectations of you or assumptions about your morals based on what you wear. might not be fair, but it IS life. Just as i would not show up to argue a case in court with a thong and a short skirt because of the decorum required and the RULES of the place, such attire at a school dance is equally inappropriate.
Boy that is a surprise! Might as well see if the man who knows will fill us in. JohnRob, is it true that if you logoff from FR, under the old or new formats, that a search of your name will say 'No current Freeper by that Name'?
It IS up to the parents, and I guarantee you that most here who are in shock over this do NOT have teenaged daughters and are equally clueless as to the "culture" in high schools these days.
Folks, if you're over 30 (if you're over 45 like me, fuhgedaboutit), know that "this ain't your daddy's high school" any more.
My high school aged daughter wouldn't be caught dead outside this house dressed like that. I wouldn't allow it, her mother sure as HELL wouldn't allow it, and thank God (literally) that she's a great kid with her head on straight and wouldn't even consider it. She doesn't dress like a nun, mind you, and frankly, she looks great in whatever she wears. Modest-yet-fashionable clothing is her order of the day, and she's very, very up on fashion (and will pursue a career in the field). She and her friends are constantly sneering about these "hoochie chicks" at school. They dress provocatively but wind up looking ridiculous.............and the idiot of a principal allows it if the girls are a)juniors or seniors and b) cute enough.
THAT'S a small taste of what it's like in a new, very upscale neighborhood's high school in today's America.
SINCE WHEN?????????
Care to explain the law journal article re: your last court appearance
Sounds like a DRESS problem not a thong problem . . .
Thank you, that was the point I was trying to make, you just made it better and more understandable. Having had sons and not daughters, I am thankful to you for showing how girls with self respect, like your daughter and her friends, feel and talk about those who dress as if they should be wearing a sign saying "Come and get it, $5.00."
