Thong-Wearing Teens Kicked Out Of Dance
A group of parents are calling for the resignation of Rancho Bernardo High School's vice principal, claiming she enforced underwear checks at a school dance, 10News reported.
The dance occurred Friday and vice principal Rita Wilson turned away girls who were wearing thongs, the parent said.
Kim Teal is among the several parents angry with Wilson (pictured, right).
"First thing (my daughter) said when she got into the car was, 'Mom, it was horrible last night. You have to fight this,'" Teal told 10News.
According to parent Alane Garvik, girls who arrived at the dance wearing short skirts were immediately asked: "What kind of underwear do you have on?"
When Garvik's daughter red-facedly announced that she was wearing thong underwear she was told to "go home and put on appropriate underwear," according to Garvik.
Teal's daughter made it in and claims to have witnessed faculty lifting the skirts of girls to assure that the offending underwear was going nowhere near the dance floor.
"Well, I just saw ... a line of people and the vice principal, Mrs. Wilson, she was checking to see what the girls were wearing under their dresses. And she was literally lifting up their skirts and embarrassing them in front of everyone else," one student told 10News.
Parents and students have placed the blame on Wilson, for spearheading the thong underwear checks, even though there is nothing in the school dress code against them.
"It's not their right to know what kind of underwear these kids have," Garvik told 10News.
10News contacted school officials, who all declined to go on camera. But Principal Paul Gentle did say that he is "looking into the situation."
Parents are now asking for Wilson to resign.
Gentle said that even while enforcing the school dress code, it is not proper procedure to ask students what they are wearing underneath their clothes.
He told 10News that he plans to meet with parents sometime this week.
I think you're bandying about the word "authoritarian" so much you've completely lost sight of its meaning. Grab a bit of perspective for a moment, would you?Gov't forcing you to eat sh*t at the barrel of a gun: authoritarian.
School officials ensuring a school-sponsored dance doesn't become an adolescent gang-bang, "wilding" session, or feel show: common sense.
like fine wine... ;)
Not to grope schoolgirls at the door.
You see, when it comes to things that "conservatives" (I use the term loosely) don't like such as thongs or blue hair, then public schools can trample parental rights and it is O.K. However, if the school were banning "I Love Jesus" T-shirts, there would be calls for "Freeping the bastards" all over the site. Some folks just can't hold a consistant thought in their heads.
The school should have simply sent the girls home -- NOT lift their skirts or fondle, grope, or molest them. Is that overly difficult to understand? You're the one who needs perspective!
given the NEA's activist agenda, and giving credit to the exceptions,
a goodly portion of the public schools is at best a bad babysitter.
both my kids are in college track vo-tech programs.

If I have to be a wine?
How about a good Merlot?

Hey now; wait a doggone minute...
Whadda ya trying to do, anyway?
...hurry-up that pending coronary of mine!?
{~g4u, angel}
assuming there is eventually a suit, that is my understanding.
Probably, but as you stated earlier, it would probably be a waste of time. Sigh.
but you're correct as to the particular ox being gored.
OMG, pardon the use of that particular transitive verb !
Our public schools have forgotten that they are meant to educate, not embarass or demean. If this woman perceived a problem, she should have contacted the girls' parents to come to the school to resolve the situation.
She had no right to humiliate these young girls in public or private.
If the facts are correct in the article, the resolution of this inappropriate and perhaps criminal act by a ranking administrative official will necessitate much more than a public apology.
I'm not saying the VP handled this in the best manner possible. What I'm saying is that she handled in a manner that's probably going to pass con law muster.
So in other words, your official position on government schools is "official inconsistancy". Sometimes the userping of parental rights is good, sometimes it's bad. (Of course the school, not the parents decide) Gotcha.
