KERRY (D-MA) Kills Human Rights
WASHINGTON - Despite growing calls from human rights groups, US Army Special Forces veterans, and pleas from homeless refugees fleeing genocide Senate JOHN KERRY (D-MA) has successfully stalled the Vietnam Human Rights Act (Senate Bill HR-2833) for over half a year.
...The stalled Bill would have sanctioned the communist Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) against further racially based sterilization, terrrorism and genocide of the Christain hilltribe Degar peoples living in the Central Highlands region of the country.
...Why is Senator KERRY stalling this vital human rights legislation?
...The Degar tribes people, commonly known to westerners as the -MONTAGNARDS-, are ethnically unrelated to the Vietnamese. The Central Highlands region was never a traditional part of Vietnam. The region has been the home of the Degar tribes for at least a ..1,000.. years.
...With HR-2833 stalled by JOHN KERRY of Massachussetts, the DRV is free to continue without restriction its ethinic cleansing of the Degar Christains in the Central Highlands region in an attempt to gain control of the Degar land and resources.
...As recently as 1970 there were an estimated ..3,000,000.. Montagnards in various tribes living in the region but as a result of Vietnam's ongoing compaign of ethnic terror and extermination, the total population of Montagnards is now ...BELOW 650,000...!!!
...Nearly two thirds of the Montagnards have died in only 32 years, including more than half the male population. This is undisguised genocide.
...This is why HR-2833 was passed without delay through the House of Representatives last summer by a margin of 411 to 1 to bring an immediate halt to this tragic situation. The Bill was then rushed to the Senate where immediate passage was expected due to the urgency of the current situation.

I wish I could say something positive about this. I think ultimately there may also be land and coffee tied up in this business. The communists have long seen the tourism value of their ethnic "hill tribes". And I can't help but wonder why christianity should pose such a problem "westward" as these days the old "Redball" is dotted unabashedly with Christian churches at least from Quang Ngai well up into the north toward Vinh.
Fear of propoganda may be a factor too, where groups related to US Special Forces veterans have aimed powerful radio transmitters broadcasting Christian programming from the Philippenes specifically directed at Montangard groups. Though Nong Duc Manh came to the Party General Secretaryship as a "reformer", it really seems sad that he can't see that it would benefit Vietnam so much more to put that philosophy into practice.
The History Channel program also told that most of the Montagnards who came to the States settled near Ft Bragg. If only we could count on the Afghanis to be as loyal, we'd have the remaining alQuaeda by the short ones in a hurry.

This is kinda hard to figure. A couple of years ago there were American and French tourists ranging all over these areas, as the SRV government was touting its "Hill Tribes" as obviously lucrative to that industry.
I still sense the real issue is coffee, as these are some of the best growing regions in the country and region, and the ethnic Vietnamese (and commie government) want as much of that trade as they can get.
But all of the world's commie states have also publically declared their support for their "revolutionary" brethren in the so-called palestinian intifada too, and there could be some reflections of that in this.
Damned commies want to have it both ways. Big surprise, eh?

Re your second point, let the Senators know how many Christians in California are we talking about, what’s the racial composition, and who is donating to who and what are the contributions looking forward, and they’ll get back to you.
CA is a long way from Mass, close to Az, so the "Senator Vets" may split on that one.
I have an acquaintance involved with tourism to the "hill tribes" in Thailand, Hmong I think, though they import them from other areas, Cambodia I think. Not all that lucrative, not nearly enough to bid on a Senator.
