KDKA Radio reports X42 possible replacement for Bryant Gumbel - Time for a FReep?
KDKA Radio | 04/29/02 | N/A

KDKA radio reports at 6AM that William Jefferson Clinton is being seriously considered as a replacemnet for the departing Bryant Gumbel on the CBS Morning Show.

They gave a source, but I was so stunned (Shouldn't have been. After all they're ready to sign D. Rather through 2006...sigh) I didn't catch it. Hopefully another FReeper did and can post the source.

Seems to me this was a trial balloon going up and it might be a good time to start ringing the phones, stuffing the e-mail boxes and otherwise letting CBS know they could suffer the same fate as the "Success 2001" circus.

There is still a CBS Morning Show?

Ya know, the country is going to run out of ammo shooting down these trial baloons that have been launced by x42 himself.

Better have a substitute host on stand by daily.I don't see this sociopath having the self discipline to prepare and show up for a program that is live at 7 AM ET five days a week,52 weeks a year.

One slug replacing another slug.

Can't get much better than that.

Exactly. And even if he did show up, he'd probably keep the audience waiting while he, uhh, you know, did his tv studio intern things.

Here's the story and the link.

Clinton to CBS?

America's love affair with Bill Clinton started in the summer of 1992, when candidate Clinton whipped out his sax on Arsenio Hall's late night talk show. Now, nearly ten years later, Clinton is said to be a candidate to host his own show. Specifically, inside sources at CBS tell "Extra" that Clinton is being seriously considered to replace the retiring Bryant Gumbel. No doubt, CBS' ratings-starved morning show needs a big name replacement. But is it really possible America could soon wake up to "The Early Show" with Bill Clinton and Jane Clayson?

Officially, CBS will neither confirm nor deny our inside information. And while the former president's people are shooting down the story, there's no denying Clinton meets many of the qualifications for the job. He lives in New York, loves to wake up early, and has countless hours of TV experience.

And we know Clinton is media savvy as he demonstrated to his audience at a Democratic fundraiser in Harlem this week, joking about TV reporters who get information fed to them thru an earpiece. He said, “And I don't have one of these ear things, you know like they do, where they cheat and pretend to know what they're doing and they have no clue.”

Bill even bragged, unlike Bryant and most broadcasters, he does not need a teleprompter. He said, “I gave the State of the Union and they didn't have a teleprompter. I had to stand up there and fake it for 15 minutes before a hundred million people. Some people think I faked it for eight years before a hundred million people.”

Gumbel's CBS contract ends May 31st. His final day on the air has yet to be decided.
x42's quotes are hilarious! I highlighted 'em.

Actually, I like the idea. The Rats will need a 24/7 team to handle him and keep him from spilling things he shouldn't. This will make some of their operatives unavailable for the election cycle.

In addition, whoever the female counterpart is (Couric?), she's bound to walk off the show within a year. That should pretty much destroy it for good.

It will be fun to watch CBS take a nosedive in profits from all the out-of-court settlements they'll have to make to keep his behavior quiet.

Never happen but I wish it would. He would bomb.

This is the kind of story Clinton's people stick out there to keep his name in the media. And then they laugh at the fools that talk about it. Looks like I'm one of those fools. But just for this one post:)

Clinton is probably pushing for a "tryout" with Jane Clayson before making a decision. Naturally, he wants to make sure of what he might be getting into before committing to the show.

Thanks for the ping, p6.

I've never watched Gumbel. So if x42 gets the job, it'll just be another reason not to watch the show.

Smokey!!! Wake up!

Well they would never have to worry about finding guests because he would never be able to relinquish the spotlight. It would be a show all about Bubba. Frankly, I don't see him giving up his jet-setting ways to do a daily show, unless, he took it on the road.
