You got the wrong guy. Sullivan used to be the owner of the New England Patriots and that team was a laughingstock during his ownership. Since Kraft bought the team in 1992, it's been all uphill since.

John Harrington is the slug you must have been thinking of. This talentless bumbler ingratiated himself to owner Jean Yawkey (widow of longtime owner Tom Yawkey) and had the keys to the team handed to him upon her death as a trust. Harrington was way over his head the entire time. It is good to have the team in competent hands once again.

Big amen to that. Harrington was *horrible* - at the very least, a classic case of a guy in way over his head and unable to make the tough calls. Regardless of how this season turns out, I have been very impressed with the new owners. Even if we don't go all the way, or even fall apart like last year, I will finally have faith that the people in control will be able, or at least *willing*, to make the necessary changes.

But hey, this is no day for complaining - I can't think of anyone more deserving of this than Lowe. I felt horrible for him last year, even as I booed (more for Jimy for not making a change), and I'm really glad he's found some redemption!

When Sullivan(?) started letting the the best go to save the $, I gave up...(Don the "mis-manager" didn't help either).

I'm reading this thread long after you wrote your reply, but I need to correct something.

Nothinnew was right about a Sullivan letting Fisk, Freddie Lynn and, Luis Tiant and Burleson go for lesser payed people. Haywood Sullivan was a friend of the Yawkey's and put together a bunch of investors to buy th Sox after Tom Yawkey died. One of his partners was Buddy Leroux, the other was Jeanne Yawkey. Sullivan made himself General Manager in 1976. He lasted until 1983 or '84 when he was replaced by Lou "and now its time for lunch" Gorman.
