CATHOLIC ACTION
COPPER SUNDAY
May 19, 2002
If you are Catholic and you favor
(1)ONE STRIKE, YOU'RE OUT,
(2)criminal prosecution of all perpetrators of sex crimes
(whether cardinals, bishops, priests or deacons),
(3)weeding homosexuals out of the seminaries; and,
(4)the promotion of orthodox leaders in the Church
show your displeasure with the current inaction
of the US Catholic Cardinals and US bishops by putting only a single penny in the collection basket on Sunday, May the 19th, 2002.
Remember to pray, fast, and make sacrifices for the welfare of the Catholic Church, for the Pope, and for Christ's godly and holy priests.
Remember to pray a ROSARY FOR PRIESTS on Sunday MAY 12th.

I've been tithing so long, it'll feel strange...I guess I'll have to give my tithe somewhere else...

I think the strategy is great but it's wishful thinking to suppose that a single "copper sunday" will achieve the 4 point objective. We're dealing here with sexual predators who have been entrenched for decades if not for centuries. The only way to defeat them and regain control of the church is to implement "copper sunday" and keep it in place until full compliance with the objectives is realized.

Extraordinary times require extraordinary measures. You may be right.

Even if you are in a good diocese it is worth making the point.
You can always take/mail your weekly contribution during the week.

I'll be out of country on May 19th, but I'll give lots of green stuff anyway.

I'm not sure that would send a message by itself. Some church officials would find other excuses for the decrease in contributions.
I would think that a note or message written on a piece of paper the size of a cheque would send a better message and assure that it would be read.
However please remember that much of the money donated goes to good and worthy causes and these should not be ignored. Give freely to the Society of Saint Vincent dePaul or another great charity.

PING.........and i'm in
We have to send a message that they hear, we will not stand for corruption in the Church.

A note and a penny is not a bad idea. Giving generously to honorable Catholic ministries is always on target.
My youngest daughter lives in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee and has a "gay-friendly" parish priest. She sends her tithes to Priests for Life and to EWTN.

I think that kimsabe31 is right that this should continue until the abuses end and the RCC has righted itself. As you can probably tell by my use of terms im not RC, but I wish it well and want it returned to respectability.
