On April 23-24, 2002, an extraordinary meeting was held in the Vatican between the Cardinals of the United States and the leadership of the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops and the heads of several offices of the Holy See on the subject of the sexual abuse of minors. The meeting was called with three goals in mind:
- on the part of the American Bishops, to inform the Holy See about the difficulties which they have faced in recent months,
- on the part of the Roman Dicasteries, to hear directly from the American Cardinals and the chief officials of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops a general evaluation of the situation,
- and together to develop ways to move forward in addressing these issues.
As is known, the Holy Father received the working group in his private library late in the morning of Tuesday, April 23, and gave a programmatic address. Today, at the end of the morning session, His Holiness invited the American Cardinals and Bishops to lunch, to continue their discussion of some of the themes raised at the meeting. The participants first of all wish to express their unanimous gratitude to the Holy Father for his clear indications of direction and commitment for the future. In communion with the Pope they reaffirm certain basic principles:

This Sunday if Catholics will contribute pennies to the tithe, perhaps they will begin to listen.
Yes, yes, we know YOUR priest is one of the good guys and not part of the problem but it's clear the Bishops and Cardinals need a stonger message....
Can someone please tell me if the words of JPII are worth more than the paper they are printed on? How do you enforce them?

I have established the Gay and Lesbian Family Ministry to provide pastoral care for our homosexual brothers and sisters and their families in fidelity to the teachings of the Church.
It is my hope that this ministry can be an opportunity for healing and reconciliation.

Ladies and Gentlemen--THIS is the homosexual "lifestyle."
The people at that website claim they are part of the Body of Christ--and this is what homosexuals show as "pride"?!
From Cardinal Mahony's "fishy" service for the homosexual ministers.
We have a new rainbow colored fish pin designed by Ester Bentley as a means of recognition and as a fundraiser for our ministry. The pins are available for a $3.50 donation including shipping. The proceeds go to support Ministry With Lesbian & Gay Catholics. MLGC is a ministry of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles which promotes justice, equality and inclusivity of all gay and lesbian persons. Call or e mail us with your order
The pin comes on a card which reads:
Early Christians recognized each other by the sign of the fish.
See in this fish pin a sign of recognition of our lesbian and gay sisters and brothers.
The pin signals solidarity with all people of faith who promote justice and inclusivity for every person in their faith communities.
You go, girl! ;^)
My how things change in 11 years.
