Can someone please tell me if the words of JPII are worth more than the paper they are printed on? How do you enforce them?
"Given the doctrinal issues underlying the deplorable behavior in question, certain lines of response have been proposed:a) the Pastors of the Church need clearly to promote the correct moral teaching of the Church and publicly to reprimand individuals who spread dissent and groups which advance ambiguous approaches to pastoral care;"

The following is an excerpt of the home page:
I have established the Gay and Lesbian Family Ministry to provide pastoral care for our homosexual brothers and sisters and their families in fidelity to the teachings of the Church.
It is my hope that this ministry can be an opportunity for healing and reconciliation.
Most Rev. Anthony M. Pilla
Bishop of Cleveland
I think Courage even advises individuals not to refer to themselves as gay or lesbian.
While I have serious doubts about the retreat, I'll wait for more evidence. However, promoting a Gay PRIDE service (particularly after everything that has transpired) is a complete outrage.
I would really like to be able to take Bishop Pilla at his word. But I don't know enough about him to be able to parse that sentence. 'Fidelity to the teachings of the Church' means quite different things to Cardinal Mahoney and Bishop Bruskewitz. Can anyone advise?
However, promoting a Gay PRIDE service (particularly after everything that has transpired) is a complete outrage. It's freepin' disgusting.
If it a group called "Courage" it is approved. These folks are trying to live chaste lives. If it is "Dignity", it is the liberal group who think they can do whatever they want because 'God loves them'. Yes, God may love them, but they have turned themselves away from His face by their sinful behavior.
If the Bishop's statement is sincere, why is the Diocese promoting Gay Pride events. The interfaith service at a gay friendly Episcopal Church is part of a weekendlong Gay Pride Celbration including a parade.
This does not appear to be the type of event that provides "pastoral care for our homosexual brothers and sisters and their families in fidelity to the teachings of the Church."
Ladies and Gentlemen--THIS is the homosexual "lifestyle."
The people at that website claim they are part of the Body of Christ--and this is what homosexuals show as "pride"?!
Here's the link to Cleveland Pride 2002:
If the Bishop's statement is sincere, why is the Diocese promoting Gay Pride events. The interfaith service at a gay friendly Episcopal Church is part of a weekendlong Gay Pride Celbration including a parade. To begin with, if the Diocese is even considering sponsoring a parade that gives equal time to Courage and Dignity, I doubt that Courage would send a delegation. And If the Diocese is considering giving them equal status, I think we should call the Bishop on his statement about "fidelity to the teachings of the Church."
I sometimes feel like sticking my head in the sand and wishing it would all go away and we could all get along...
