Beleaguered Boston Cardinal Bernard Law is expected to be replaced by June and assigned to a new position at the Vatican, a Boston newspaper reported Friday.

The Boston Herald quoted unnamed church officials saying Pope John Paul II would move the embattled archbishop to an undetermined post before a scheduled deposition of Law in a suit against the Boston archdiocese.

Notice Cardinal Law has a scheduled deposition coming up, but it looks like he's not going to make it...

I am glad to see that the Vatican took matters into its own hands and is removing Cardinal Law. I do not harbor ill-will toward the Cardinal, but he made very grave errors and clearly lost the respect of his fold and any remaining authority that he had. I do believe that any bishops or cardinals that knowingly and intentionally reassigned these bad eggs where they could have access to children should be removed from their posts. I think that the Church's move send a clear message -- Clean up your act, or we will do it for you!

He should be in a monastery wearing sack cloth and ashes, fasting and sleeping on a straw matress to do penance for his sins.

And the Vatican is openly saying it's moving him to Rome before his scheduled deposition. I think an indictment and the confiscation of Law's passport are in order: keept the SOB here and try him as an accessory after the fact and for misprison of felony! Cardinal Law should spend a few years in the slammer learning from "Bubba" about the negative effects of forced sex.

They should not remove him before his deposition. It is right of the church to say that God will forgive Law for his part in covering up Shanley's actions, but Law owes a debt to society--to publicly admit his role and to apologize. In order for the church to heal, it is important for Law to pay this debt, and the Vatican should recognize that.

The statement did not endorse a "zero-tolerance policy" -- in which no instance of molestation would be tolerated

Does that mean they endorse some instances of molestation? It certainly implies it.

If this is true, then perhaps the scuttlebutt one hears has something to it. Upon reading this, I wondered if there was fear about allowing him to be deposed. Perhaps he might disclose unpleasant facts.

This has all the appearances of a cover-up and I am beginning to fear not only how far down we have fallen, but how high up the corruption and complicity with corruption goes.

This whole sex abuse situation is sulphurous and what appears to me to be a mendacious act only adds to the stench.

Cardinal Law should have been canned a LONG time ago. Now, it appears he will be removed only after he was finally served with a deposition.

To me, this is indicative of a continuing cover-up. Good Lord, I don't think I want to know just how bad it is....

There should be no discussions, reassignments etc. I see those who commited these acts as criminals who should be dealt with as such. Those who reassigned these guys and/or hid what was going on are conspirators and should also be CRIMINALLY dealt with as such. These kids are probably messed up for life now. Because of what has been inflicted on them, these kids may never come to know Jesus Christ because of the baggage they are carrying. EUqZXVXJ1ejHZbmZZm6KUQ Matt 18:6-7 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. 7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh! KJV I know "Reverend" in the dictionary sense, is a pretty generic term, but I have seen the media using it a lot more lately. Until recently, I don't recall it being used to define clergy of the Catholic persuasion. I see this as a veiled assault of guilt by association. I wouldn't put it past the media to be attempting to lump those in Christian leadership postions together to cause division and undermine Christian credibility especially to those who don't have a clue. Think about it for a moment...Rev Billy Graham, Rev Fallwell, Rev Jackson ;) etc...What happened to Father________, Cardinal________, Pope_______?

I always try to remember that part from Scripture that says something like: "Man see the appearances...God sees the heart." I personally don't see a cover-up game going on. Cardinal Law is in a jam and they are trying to do what is best in the eyes of God. I'm not afraid. If I were Cardinal Law I would tell the reporters and those arrogant New York newsmen: "See my Confessor." Then I would move on. The only one Cardinal Law has to account to is God and none of us or the Press. The same goes for the Pope.

Every citizen of this country is responsible for following the law, and no one is above the law because of his social position or religion. That's why "Equal Justice Under Law" is carved over the entrance to the US Supreme Court building.

Of course that above the law crap does NOT apply to the Klintoons. Secondly, any of you who want this man on a platter, as I do, also better face up to your commander-in-chief who is responsible for giving Bubba & friends a free ride.
