It would be the worst move yet if the Church promotes Law for his abominable lack of judgement.

Saundra Duffy is not Catholic. She's said that many times. Asking her about her marital status or whether she's had an abortion was an implication that her disagreement with the Church couldn't possibly be sincere; she was disagreeing because she was some horrific sinner.

It was cheap theatrics, allend.

For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take.

And you have looked up "bishoprick" in the original Greek in the NT and then gone back to the Hebrew meaning of the related verse in the Psalms, right? You CERTAIN of the meaning of the word and how it relates to the modern meaning of "bishopric", right?

I don't know Greek or Hebrew. It basically means "office" in this context, doesn't it? "Office" implies succesion and since Judas was an Apostle, the man filling his office would have been a succesor of the Apostles, which is pretty much the definition of a bishop.

I do like to quote from the King James on this one because I like to have fun with the people who seem to think that the KJ is the version of the Bible that descended from Heaven at Pentecost.

I don't know, does it imply succession? Sounds like you are flapping your jaws without really knowing what you are talking about in order to be inflammatory.

It's still a better version of the Bible than the versions descended from the wildly inaccurate Vulgate.

Can you name an office that doesn't have successors? Besides, the context makes it clear, since the passage says, "Let another take his office."

It's still a better version of the Bible than the versions descended from the wildly inaccurate Vulgate.

Which brings us to a problem with the unbiblical doctrine of Sola Scriptura which is that the Bible doesn't tell us which version of the Bible is authorized or accurate.

Additionally, the whole notion of Sola Scriptura would have seemed a bit absurd in the centuries preceding the invention of the printing press since a hand-copied Bible in those days cost the equivalent of three years wages (or maybe the equivalent of $100k today).

Spain is the only country to be conquered by Moslems to regain Christianity. It speaks volumes.

I see that you are either reinventing history or just making things up as you go along to suit your "RC" version of historical events. As a matter of fact, Spain is not alone in this honorable club. Many Eastern European nations regained Christianity after the darkness of Ottoman Turkish Islamic slavery and domination.- Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, etc. The revolutions beginning with the one in Greece in 1821 lasted many years and took many thousands of Christian lives and all done with no help from the "Christian" Vatican!

Thanks so much for the heads up regarding the special on EWTN - I will definitely watch it.

It's tough to know what or who to believe, but EWTN does a good job.

You made some intelligent points in your #312. I don't entirely agree with you nor do I entirely disagree with you. Maybe we can take this up at another time because I've spent so much energy keeping up on other subjects of interest that I'm getting burned out for now. Sorry I didn't respond sooner. My philosophy is to try to make the best of circumstances and learn all one can no matter what the setting. My father was a near genius and he started in a one-room country school. My sister's kid is another near-genius with an incredible career and the public schools didn't seem to hurt him. In his case he had lots of extra perks like summer learning experiences, school abroad, music, all the extras, etc.

Basically its about making the most of the hand you are dealt and staying focussed.

Did you ever meet anyone who shared your opinions about almost everything? I never have.

I'm sorry if I came across as angry at you. This is a BIG issue with me, and a lot of it has to do with my personal experience in public school. My hostility is aimed at the institution and even more so at the ideology behind it, not at you or even the teachers and administrators. The thing has taken on a life of its own...
