IMHO.I think Cardinal Law, after being ill-advised that the guilty parties had been "re-habilitated", mistakingly transferred the child abusers to other parishes. And only later found out that the abusers were not "cured." Do you really think that Cardinal Law purposedly transferred abusers knowing that they would commit their crimes again. At least give Cardinal Law the benefit of the doubt. But I do believe that Cardinal Law should be replaced. As do all Cardinals, who made the mistake of transferring child abusers no matter if they were ill-advised. A wrong executive decision warrants consequences.

"The evil bastard is caught shuffling child rapers around and not only is he not fired, arrested or hung - he's promoted."

NO, he isn't being promoted at all..he is being imprisioned...Vatican style.

THEN he would have done something worth doing.

I know that it may be hard for you to admit but the Holy Father is, in my humble opinion" much wiser than you.

Imagine that: F*@k up, move up.

And you NEVER saw that in your beloved Air Force? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Although I live in Texas, it was clear from here that Cardinal Law had to go. There was no other American diocese he could go to, ergo the transfer to the Vatican. He goes from being the big fish in his pond to just another large fish in a huge lake.

I hardly think that Cardinal Law looks at this as a promotion.

The problem with that explanation is that Cardinal Law repeatedly transfered this creep Shanley from parish to parish. Are you suggesting that with each transfer the Cardinal was hoping that Shanley was finally 'cured'?

- strongly denounced the criminal priests and those who covered it up
- strongly reinforced the Church teachings on homosexuality and child abuse
- fed Law to the wolves
- led the Cardinals to a "zero tolerance" rule for priests
- started an initiative to clean out the seminaries of their homosexual cults

Maybe you don't speak Vaticanese, but he has done all these things. Transferring Law to Rome is not a promotion. It is, rather, as has been said, a means of incarceration and a striping of any authority.

Do I believe that Cardinal Law believed that he was purposely covering up a crime. Absof**inglutely!! He, and now that it comes out that the Pope knew of these actions in 1983, and the Pope should be charged with RICO conspiracy law violations. He should not be allowed to leave the United States until it is determined that he is not responsible for a crime. His passport should be confiscated today.

Actually, I think that is where the sentence was invented.

Don't worry. There's no higher position in the Church than being the Ordinary of a diocese, which is what he is in Boston. When he gets to the Vatican, he'll have a swell title, and an office in a broom closet somewhere.

Priests being moved around rather than punished has been the hallmark of this dirty business from the beginning.

You hit the nail right on the head. No changes, no improvements. Business as usual.

#15 - excellent summary of what should have been done. This move of Law to the Vatican is shameful and a vivid confirmation of the impotence of the report that came out of the Cardinal's meeting.

Bravo, tell it like it is. Why do some Protestant Conservatives have such hatred for Roman Catholics? That is a question I need answered, because frankly it scares me, that politically we agree, but that they hate and despise us for our religion. (NOTE: SOME PROTESTANTS, NOT ALL, NOT MOST)

Cardinal Law has no right to give criminals the benefit of the doubt. He has the duty to protect the weakest of his flock from the wolves. He failed miserably and possibly broke the law in so doing.

" a means of incarceration and a striping of any authority. "

It is in "vaticaneese" or any other term you like the hiding of a felon!...actively hiding anyone who abuses children is a felon and complicit...hiding the man who allowed this to continue makes the pope a felon too........the whole thing is criminal, religion aside.

Good lord look past your nose and respect your faith...it's a dishonorable way to handle this. A true patriarch, would stand up and say your right the institution is flawed were going to fix it!

One can only assume this pope is nothing more than a figure head controlled by corrupt cardinals or he is as much at fault as anyone.

I understood the comment this morning on FNC was that when Law went to Rome, the prosecutor would have a hard time bringing him back for depositions. In other words he would be under Rome's protection........and that is the reason for the move. I doubt that he will ever come back.......will claim he is too sick to travel.

It is customary in this country to use courts of law to determine the guilt or innocence of a person. I see no indication that the Vatican is using this move to subvert the operations of the civil authorities in Boston.

He did. I'm sorry you can't understand the language, but he did. He didn't say it like Tony down the street might have said it, but he said it.

Why is it always about the church, protecting the church, it seems, is the motivation of all these leaders. No one seems to be talking about, God or the children or the families that come Sundays to hear God's Word.

Everyone seems so concerned about what the Pope says, what about God almighty? What does He say?

Also you all act all surprised, this abuse has been going on for decades. And the Catholic church as a collective decided to put the church before innocent little kids. Doesn't it make you wonder a little about its foundation?
