Notorious warlord killed in Chechnya

Jordan-born warlord Khattab, one of the most notorious terrorists operating in Chechnya, was killed in a special operation in Chechnya. Alexander Zdanovich, a senior official in the Russian Federal Security Service, confirmed this information. “Evidence of Khattab’s death will be produced soon,” he told RBC.

Khattab was involved in military fighting in a number of the world’s hot spots, including Afghanistan and Middle East countries. He is an expert on explosives, and he personally trained Chechen fighters. There is evidence that Khattab was involved in atrocities against Russian servicemen.

According to a source in the Russian cabinet, the government hopes that his death will deter other Chechen rebels from resisting Russian forces. “The government is satisfied with the killing of one of the staunchest enemies of the constitutional system in Chechnya,” the source said. “We hope that the special agencies will eliminate other warlords as well,” he added.

If true, scratch one ruthless jihadist terrorist. A good day for the war against militant Islam.

Russia Says Killed Key Chechen Warlord Khattab

April 25, 2002 08:03 AM ET

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Thursday its troops killed one of the country's most wanted men, Khattab, an Arab-born Chechen guerrilla leader who Moscow claims has close ties to Osama bin Laden.

"International terrorist Khattab, an ideologist and organizer of terrorist activity, has been eliminated as a result of a special operation by the Federal Security Service in the Chechen republic," an FSB spokesman told Reuters.

Khattab's death would be a major coup for Moscow and its campaign to stamp out an armed insurgency on its turbulent southern rim.

Russia sent troops into Chechnya in October 2000 to restore Moscow's rule. The army regained control of most of the territory within months, but has since failed to kill or capture any of the rebel leaders waging a guerrilla war against Moscow.

Russia, which threw its weight behind the U.S.-led war on terrorism, has also said Jordanian-born Khattab was a faithful lieutenant of Saudi-born fugitive Osama bin Laden, whom Washington accuses of masterminding the September 11 hijacked airliner attacks.

Khattab on the left, in charge of the non-chechen elements of the Chechen rebels (ie arabs). It was rumored that he was in Afganistan when we started attacking there. The man on the right was his leader during the Chechen conflict, Shamil Basayev. I believe was killed by Khattab last year, being branded a "traitor".

It took a long time. Did Saudies sold him out? Recently they were begging Russians for help.

Exactly. I think the message to these potential "martyrs for the cause" is this: Don't even try to buy life insurance. You couldn't afford it.

Just yesterday one of my Iranian refugee students told us about how the Iranian government pays thousands (I think he said 25-30 thousand dollars) for Iranian young men to go fight in selected places in the world outside Iran including Chechnya.

Personally I hope that the next target is the Islamic fundamentalist trash in Iran and their war toys. Take them out first, destroy their leaders and war toys. Then let all of the good Iranians who had to flee Iran to save their lives and their families, return to set up a democracy!

This entire current 3 decades of Islamic terrorism started back in Iran in the 1970's. At that time they were probably secretively financed by the Opecker Princes. Iran is like Cuba. A training ground for terrorists, and a place to raise money and PR support for Islamic terrorists.

Take out these scumbags and the levels of terrorism in the world will plummet!

Thanks for sharing this. This is a common story related by Iranians in America who have relatives still in this hell Islamic Hell Hole!

I heard something that this guy used to cut the heads off the Russian Soldiers personally while video taping it. Might be just hearsay, but I wouldn't put it passed him.
