Yum, the sardines sound good, except for the olive part.

I just remembered another item we still have, a 10 lb. bag of alfalfa sprouting seeds. Fresh greens, ya' know......

Yum. We have started looking at solar again. I'd have to cut down a BA oak tree but technology has improved since 1999.

Can the new solar stuff power a computer?? Or do you have to wire your house for 12v and get new appliances??

the Y3K worldwide disaster is now less than 400,000 days away. You've been warned.

Actually the next computer calendar problem will be y10k. That is when the year goes from four to five digits in length. Start reprogramming now, we have only 7998 years to go.

It's my belief that what is happening RIGHT NOW is Y2K, or at least the beginning of it.

I agree with you. The only reason I am getting rid of stuff rather than stockpiling is that I plan to move as soon as we can sell our house and buy a new one. I'm very nervous that the next terrorist attack will happen while we do not have a place to go. Oh well, it certainly won't keep me from moving!

The solar stuff can power anything. The power is converted. Usually, you rig up the solar power to supplement your regular power.

Gee,

My wife shoots 80 - 90 year old ammo in her Enfield. Most of it works most of the time. We get probably a 95% good rate with it. Pulled the bullets on some of the misfires one time. The powder was the old cordite stuff. Kind of interesting to check out.

Semper Fi!

I still have my M-16, bullets and the flamethrower I bought so I could break into people's stockpiles and steal the food that they had put up.

LOL...me too!

"That would leave one helluva mark...."

Yes, I imagine so. It might even slay a Goliaf. I hope that I spelled Goliaf right. If not, I just got off a 13 hour midnight shift. I have a good excuse.

"If you put your grains in the freezer, I have heard it will kill any weavil eggs that might be in there. I don't think you have to keep them in the freezer more than a couple of weeks but it doesn't hurt to leave them there if you have the room."

I'd heard about using the freezer, and since the dry stuff hasn't had any creepy-crawlies in it yet, I'll do just that.

Before Y2K, I rarely had an infestation because I'd used the bay leaves. I teach Chinese cooking, and I have a lot of dried ingredients that use to become infested --- until I found about bay. But there has been a problem since then. From what I'd heard, a law on radiating some seeds/grains expired on Jan.1, 2000. Shortly after that, the Terminix people, and others like them, started getting calls about infestations. I knew that all my spices had been OK, but I decided to check my new ones bought well after Y2K, and sure enough, there were little nests and crawling worms in and under the 'thread' of the cap of the containers! They were even in a sealed plastic bag of Kasha grains. SO --- out they all went, as well as everything in those cabinets. I had to buy all new stuff, and I froze it all for 48 hours. (I found some information on line) Since then, any new dry things that I buy all go into the freezer for 24 hours. I'm fortunate to have a large, full-sized freezer, so space isn't a problem.

One thing that amazed me was that those weevils like red pepper!!! They were in both the cayenne and inthe seeds! LOL!

I had about a hundred rolls of toilet paper. I was steadily trying to eat one a week but my case of barbeque sauce ran out about ten months into it.

Actually the next date problem is 2038, when UNIX systems roll over the number of seconds since 1970. (No, I'm not kidding.)

The Y2K bug was easily understandable by the public.
The UNIX date bug is not, possibly making it more dangerous.

Well heck, look what happened during Y1K. They didn't have electricity for another 900 years.

Oh I love this subject. In fact, I made sure my stock of Potassium Iodate was still good. And they are! (Those are the radiation pills to take in case of Nuclear meltdown)

I cannot tell a lie.....I still have about 5 boxes of yeast infection cream. HAHAHA! Seriously. I was not going to be uncomfortable with anything that might arise.

I still have my six 55 gallon drums of treated water (Good for 5 years.)

I used up most of the food stuff, and the pet necessities, toilet paper is gone. The camping goods are still safely packed away and my Physicians Desk Reference is on the shelf in case of emergency. You name it...I bought it. Boy, was I fooled.

I even took a HAM radio operaters class and got my license. Ran out of money to get the radio after buying the $900 generator! Still want my HAM radio and shotgun. OH! and I have several bottles of waterless shampoo and dehydrated butter for sale....cheap!

You can use the dehydrated butter. I had some Butter Buds and you can add them to baking ingredients, cookies especially when you use Crisco and still want that butter taste. Works in mashed potatoes too.
