Ukrainian Anti-Stealth Radar Sold to Iraq Discovered in Ethiopia (Saddam paid $100 mil for 3 units)
BBC Radio and Kiev Newspaper 'Zerkalo nedeli' (Mirror of the Week) VIA Pravda. Ru Newswire ^ | April 22, 2002 | San Francisco Terrorist Grand Jury Investigation

Posted on 04/22/2002 2:15:58 PM PDT by codebreaker

(Russian article with very confusing translation)

It basically details the San Francisco Grand Jury trial involving the President of Ukraine going on right now regarding the sale of anti-stealth radar to Iraq. (through Ethopia)

BBC reports that one of the batteries has been found in Ethopia with serial number attached, Russian factories quoted by Kiev paper say they didn't give it to Iraq but the newspaper also reveals Saddam paid 100 million for 3 anti stealth batteries worth about 15 million.(shipped to a country which has never needed to be protected against a Stealth Bomber)

Grand Jury in California may bring criminal charges on the Ukranian president before this thing is over.

To snuff out a supposedly undetectable U.S. Bomber?

Phased array maybe? No rotating radar dish? Taking a guess.

That's what it's for. I'm curious about what it is. As in how?...

its kinda like passive/agressive radar. It will reveal a target, but only after complaining about not having had a break all day.

speaking of... I just sold my GMC to an arab/american. He wanted to know if it had good turban room and if it could seat 7 infidels in comfort.

$15 million for THREE anti-stealth aircraft radars? I smell garbage and it hides under the title of "News".

Probably kind of like passive sonar. It looks for certain emission signatures. I would assume that the stealth bomber sends out a radar signal otherwise it would be blind. It would try to pick up on that. Active radar would be like a sonar "ping," sending out a radar signal and looking for bounce back.

Active radar works by emitting a pulse of microwaves, and seeing if anything out there reflects it back. Stealth works by either absorbing the microwaves, or by reflecting them in some other direction than back at the radar station

But if you have a radar station that does not emit, but instead listens to the microwave emissions of other things (like cell-phone towers), and something comes along that disturbs or changes the pattern of what you're receiving, by aborbing or re-directing some of the energy, then you have him.

"I wonder what a "passive" radar is?..."

It's a radar that doesn't emit a signal of its own but uses the transmitted signals of other electromagnetic sources (radio, TV stations, etc.) to illuminate a target. The passive radar merely receives the target reflections generated by the other signals. (It's more complex than this, but you get the idea.)

It is an array of antennas that senses the disturbances in TV and commercial radio waves as an object passes through them.

Remember when the Yugoslavs shot down one of our F-117's and a few days later we bombed China's embassy? Do you REALLY think we didn't know China's embassy was there?

You assume incorrectly.

P.S. Why do you think we were destroying radio and TV towers in Yugoslavia?

Actually, its even worse.

Saddam paid 100 million for 3-4 anti Stealth radars worth about 5 million per, that oil cash is still flowing from somewhere, probably India...

Right on. Remember all of the phoney conservative sites who were blaming 9/11 on evil greedy Americans and claiming that zillions of Iraqui children were starving due to evil Americans.

Saddam alone in his country is worth over 7 Billion $'s. If anyone starves in any oil rich country, it is due to the Islamic Thugs and other thugs who rule those countries.

Also, it costs a lot of money to buy a terrorist bomber in Israel, last going price was $25,000 per terrorist.
