Fox,CNN and Big Media will Try to Duplicate OJ Success in Robert Blake matter.

Robert Blake is a third rate actor. He may or may not have killed his wife. Who Cares?

Isn't it shameless exploitation for Fox News, CNN and some of the other major media to give this non-story such significance. It is "shameless" to waste the public's attention and energy on such a crime of little importance. Here is the exception of a story where even the NY Times will probalby use better judgment than FOX news. Most likely Fox news and CNN will continue to try to build up this non-story into a big-several- month run of improved ratings. My questions are: Why shouldn't the leading media concentrate on what is important (or at least issues that may be important) rather than the Blake murder which is negative, irrelevant and of minimal significance? and Can't FOx News and CNN show some judgment and forget about this story that deserves to be forgotten?

It's cheap to produce and makes a lot of money. That's all entertainment cares about. Certainly, not integreity.

I agree with you on both counts. Blake was not 3rd rate as an actor. He was good at what he did. That said, he appears to be a murderer. I have no particular interest except, of course, that justice be done. I sure don't want to hear about it 24 hours a day.

I think wall to wall coverage of the Blake murder might be a good idea. While I think we need to be informed about world affairs, there is too much coverage of the war, middle east, ect. They are doing there dead level best to dis Bush. Let Blake dominate the news, and Bush and company under the radar can go about their bussiness.

You are correct that there are other wastes of time and that this is a capitalist society. However, isn't it still true that more coverage of other obviously important issues ---such as clarification of the oil issue in Alaska, severe anti-semitism in Europe, and US government waste --- would benefit us all?

BTW The algore spoof was a gentle spoof. The only way I could continue to watch looney alex, was to see how he has aged. He looks puffy & sluggish, he still has hair but his looks have definately gone bye bye. he he

Sure but what media do you think is going to do that? None that Im aware of.

Squeeze the Dems and their issues even further off the radar screen. Daschle and Gephardt must really being having a fit now knowing their 4% of the news is going to get even smaller. Pretty soon the only places you will be able to see their faces is C-Span and at signing ceremonies at the White House, assuming they allow bills to come for a vote.

I had just emailed FOX to complain about all the coverage of the Blake story when I found your post. Maybe if we ALL remind them that we really would rather watch REAL news?

I am not so sure. I think some people might want to know about this. I know greta might get on blake as she did on o.j. and she did do a great job. Fox knows that things are not the same as pre 9/11 so i don't think they will cover this all day I think middle east is the most important thing going on right now.

I agree; but in a society that is determined by its leaders to control rather than create an atmosphere of thinking; what can you expect?

I don't know which SNL actor was doing Geraldo, but he was spot on.

Darrell Hammond -- wasn't that a scream? He is a great impressionist, as he does more than just get the voice correct, he has intonations, their physical gestures, the works. And he can do so many different guys -- I love his Algore imitations, just too funny!

I think they will be hard-pressed to duplicate, as race plays no factor in this one.

Hammond was terrific! Then he did do Al Gore with Alex Baldwin and was even funnier. But I really thought that the writers had lifted the Geraldo stuff from Greta's show from Thursday word for word. I was on the floor!

Funny thing, though--when Brit Hume ran a clip from SNL, he only ran the Al Gore bit & not the Geraldo bit. I think it cut too close to home :-))
