I cannot believe in a God who wants to be praised all the time.
- Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 - 1900) God is Dead.

Nietzsche is dead.

"Her first essay about 9-11-2002 attack"However, I did just notice this ... don't tell me that we were attacked again yesterday and I missed it!
Boy, when the press doesn't want something covered, they can REALLY keep it quiet.

Thanks for the ping. I read this when it was published last year.
She mentions the people who jumped. Last night on Fox's NY channel they had an extremely gripping 9-11 program consisting of video taken that day by a three-man crew who were so close to WTC that they narrowly escaped death when the towers fell.
Before the collapse of the buildings they zoomed in on an incredible scene. A man on one of the burning floors was hanging outside his window -- he was completely outside --holding on to something connected inside his office.
The reporters speculated that he was somehow trying to lower himself. They were wrong, IMO. What he did was go outside suspended from some "nonflammable" material (wire? cable?) with the idea that he would climb back in after the fire burned itself out.
Then the poor guy lost his grip and fell, never knowing that all was lost anyhow.

I am guilty of pinging before finished reading this long, this very long piece. But it is already obvious to me, within the first few sentences of this woman's words, I have happened upon a literary gem....thank you Cacique for the ping, and dennisw for posting.
I will finish reading this essay once it's printed but already know it will be more than worth my time. Hope you all think so, too.

What sense is there in respecting those who dont respect us? What sense is there in defending their culture or presumed culture when they scorn ours? " Fantastic article.

At some point I may serialize her book "The Rage and The Pride". It's a pitty it hasn't gotten the play here that it has gotten in Europe, and still yesterday the idiots were out in force protesting. They still don't "get it".
Reading her in Italian is even better. I am still looking for a copy of her book in Italian. I must remind mysself to stop by Rizzoli's in Manhattan and see if they have it.
