L.A. Times Under Siege for Alleged Mideast Bias

Nearly 1,000 members of Los Angeles' Jewish community interrupted delivery of their Los Angeles Times citing an alleged pro-Arab bias in the paper's coverage of the Middle East crisis.

According to the Times, as part of a protest reportedly organized in the local Jewish community timed to correspond with Wednesday's 54th anniversary of Israeli independence, the subscribers "have ordered suspension of home delivery for a day or more to protest what they call inaccurate, pro-Palestinian reporting of the unrest in the Middle East." While the newspaper's officials said they could not provide precise figures on the number of delivery suspensions, they said the orders amount to less than one-tenth of 1 percent of the paper's total daily circulation that is just below a million. They revealed that the Times began fielding "multiple calls about Middle East coverage Monday," adding that some 900 calls had come in Wednesday, "but not all of them requested suspensions." The Times wrote that Dr. Joe Englanoff, a UCLA Medical Center physician told them that talk about "staging the protest against The Times' Middle East coverage began circulating through Southern California's Jewish community several weeks ago.

"Thousands have been contacted, mostly by e-mail," he told the Times' Eric Malnic. "There's a feeling in the community that The Times clearly has been one-sided and biased in its reporting about the Middle East. People in the Jewish community want to express their anger."

Times' editor John Carroll explained that his paper has a large staff of reporters and photographers chronicling the Middle East conflict.

"Our goal is to provide coverage that is both fair and complete," he said. "We feel that we serve our readership by covering all aspects and points of view.

"Some readers may take exception to specific articles, but I am confident that, over time, careful readers of this newspaper will get a full, balanced account of these unsettling events," Carroll said.

I believe the 'suspension of delivery of a day or more' is not accurate. More accurate is a total cancellation of subscriptions. It is easy to cancel a subscription and read throw away copies of the rag in a restaurant.

The Los Angeles Times used to be a great newspaper with genuine investigative reporting even though it was biased toward the Democratic Party. However, the newpaper is now a Clintonite propaganda rag owned by the same outfit that owns The Washington Post .... Reading the L.A. Times is like watching the Disney run ABC propaganda news ... gay agenda, 'New Democrat' corruption and total surrender to Araft's Palistian terorists.

I also believe that the editorial board of the L.A. Times is shaking in their boots about the prospect of WMD being unleashed on Los Angeles County .... However, there are still hardcore people 'in the Biz' of Jewish heritage who I am sure will not cancel their subscriptions.

I say bravo to Los Angeles supporters of Israel!

Yeah, I know. Probably based on the direct orders of Hitlery-and-Bubba Arkancide.

The Los Angeles times called to offer a free 16 week trial. They could not give it away to our house. I told 'em no. I used to enjoy it. Now I won't read it if it is free and the only papeqr sitting at the counter in the coffee shop.

Advocacy journalism with absolutely no balance - opinion being pushed out as news - is killing the LA Times, they know it but they canot help themselves.

Since when is it a requirement that news be balanced? What does balanced mean? Does it mean not showing favoritism?

Balanced news is nothing more than sacrificing truth and accuracy so that a newspaper can straddle fences, be all things to all people and thereby foster moral confusion and paralysis. This is liberal orthodoxy at work. Those who occupy and write for the newspapers in this country are the products of that liberal orthodoxy; they are rudderless and without values.
