PROTECT CHILDREN in California (AB 2084)
April 18, 2002 | Capitol Resource Institute

Posted on 04/19/2002 11:20:53 AM PDT by Saundra Duffy

This is from the ever-vigilant Capitol Resource Institute:

PROTECT CHILDREN

Current law allows schools to dismiss students as young as 12 to receive "confidential medical services," including abortions, birth control and counseling, without parental permission or knowledge. AB 2084, authored by Assemblyman Mike Briggs (R-Fresno), would repeal that provision. Parents need to be able to trust that, once they drop their children off at school in the morning, they will remain there until they pick them up after school AB 2084 will be heard in the Assembly Education Committee next Wednesday. To protect children and parental rights, contact the members of this committee and urge their "yes" vote. Contact information can be found at http://www.capitolresource.org/Committees1.htm .

This is a "parental consent" bill but if you use those words, the pro choice lobby has a hissy fit. (Assemblyman Mike Briggs is one of my heroes!) Go, Briggs!

This bill doesn't have a snow ball's chance in hell of passing the democrap-controlled Legislature but then Briggs can say he tried. It will probably go before the voters in the form of a state initiative - IF Briggs can raise the funds. Thanks for your post, but remember THIS IS CALIFORNIA. For victory & freedom!!!

What does this have to do with pro choice?? These are children we're talking about, and their parents can't be legally kept out of their lives by a school!

Can they?? Or is this a joke? Can the laws in California really be that deranged? How can this possibly be legal!?

And what kind of doctor would perform an abortion on a 12- year old without parental consent? Doesn't that just scream malpractice to you?

I find this absolutely appalling. I hope the bill passes.

And by the way, I'm pro choice (but let's not get into that,) and the only thing I'm having a hissy fit about is the current law in effect which you described. Unbelievable!

These evil-doers need more parents to stand up to their antics. Unfortunately, many parents don't think it's happening in their child's school. Or they're just too busy climbing the corporate ladder to pay for that new SUV and the summer vacations.

Yes, they're really bad. The Pacific Justice Institute is involved in some cases about this and other school shenanigans. Wish I had the web address in front of me but I lost many of my bookmarks. As far as many are concerned, there is no such thing as parental rights. Once your child is left at the school, you give up your parental rights. This angers me. Can't you tell?

Yes. This is just one of the reasons why Dr. Dobson (and later joined by Dr. Laura) have told parents to TAKE THEIR KIDS OUT OF CALIFORNIA PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Yes, California really is this deranged and YES a 12 year old girl can be taken out of school and can get an abortion without her parents every knowing about it.

I'm afraid you're right. Many CA parents just don't care. It's a sad tragedy beyond belief.

Yes, it really is.

I personally think that once you have your child enrolled in a govt. school, it is much more difficult to remove him/her from govt. schooling.

Things are getting out of control and it's as if there is no way to stop the insanity.

A term my husband likes to use: People are willfully ignorant!

Actually, I think it would be a good tactical move for conservatives and libertarians to quietly support keeping this idiot law in place. The public schools are hopeless already, and any kid who really wants to get contraceptives or an abortion or talk to a loony-lefty "counselor" will be able to with or without this bill. But giving the school bureaucrats authority to ship people's kids all over the county during the school day without the parents' knowledge is one more strike against the public schools, which will cause more people to take their kids out of public schools and put them in private school or home school them.

The fewer kids are in public schools, the stronger the voting block to reduce their funding and reduce interference with legitimate home schooling, and the weaker the voting block for the teachers' union (fewer kids in public school = fewer teachers in unionized school jobs = fewer teachers with incentive to vote to protect their jobs). Help the government indoctrination centers hang themselves with their own rope -- support keeping this obnoxious law on the books!

Nice to see another openly pro-choice freeper. It's important that the "pro-life" majority around here understands that we're their allies -- on home schooling laws, 2nd Amendment rights, the welfare state, "politically correct" absurdities, and all the other areas where our socialist government is invading private citizens' lives like cancer.

Wow. That's just awful. I live on the east coast, but I'm still outraged over the fact that this kind of thing can happen in our country. The state is clearly overstepping its boundaries. EVERYONE should be outraged.

Is there anything I can do from here to change this?

Thanks. Yes, one can be conservative and still be pro choice. I've found that my views on that subject tend to be highly misunderstood and grossly re-interpreted, so I don't even want to discuss it anymore.

But thanks again.
