Of course the French would sell them aircraft for military purposes. The French hate the United States almost as much as the PLA. The question is why the United States is doing business with a criminal totalitarian regime which holds our soldiers hostage, subverts our government through espionage and, constantly threatens us.
I don't have a problem with the U.S. calling up civilian aircraft for military purposes. I have a problem with the U.S. providing the Communist Chinese with aircraft for military purposes. You see, I can tell the difference between THEM and US.

I also have a problem with selling them the capability to manufacture those same aircraft. Also ?I have a problem with Boeing doing its airframe

I share your sentinents wrt the adversarial relationship we have with china. My point was that we might as well enjoy the economic windfall if all we sell them is something they can buy in the open market anyway. And there 'may' be an eventual political upside to keeping various relationships (business or otherwise) with them to use as bargaining chips in future disputes.
If it was sensitive technology that the US has a monopoly on, I would be much more restrictive on selling/sharing such things.
