(D) Wellstone in trouble in Minn Senate Race

WASHINGTON — Sen. Paul Wellstone's campaign is struggling, getting support from just 42 percent of Minnesota voters, according to two recent partisan polls.

On Monday, national Democrats released a poll showing Wellstone, D-Minn., narrowly leading Republican challenger Norm Coleman by 42 percent to 40 percent.

Earlier this month, national Republicans released their own poll of Minnesota voters showing Coleman ahead, 49 percent to 42 percent.

The Wellstone campaign cites a history of close races, saying this is business as usual.

But two political analysts think the results spell trouble for the senator. Here's the full article

I gave him a list of things Coleman stood for. Apprently he decided to ignore it. This guy reminds me of the RINOs who kept bashing Mark Earley in Virginia and then gloated when socialist Mark Warner won.

I'm not the first to say it, but one more Republican ("Rino" or otherwise) in the Senate might mean the balance of power in the Senate. Remember jeffords! (Capitalization deliberately ommitted). gephard and company have done a whole lot of damage to our cause over just a single turncoat in the Senate. Please, let's keep things in perspective.

Minnesota is not the bastion of knee-jerk Liberal stupidity which it used to be. Bush carried five of the eight congressional districts here and was less than 2% short of Al Gore statewide. Reagan also came within 5,000 votes of beating hometown superstar Walter Mondale in 1984.

Not long ago Jim Robinson had a post explaining why it behooves all of us to be pragmatic when it comes to the House and Senate and vote for the Republican even if he is a RINO, which Coleman isn't, but as you said, we wouldn't have that idiot Dashole blocking every Republican bill or judicial nominee if we had a Republican majority.

It is so good that you have Max Cleland on the run in Georgia, where you live, that you can give the citizens of Minnesota grief as to their candidate for senate.

Well, there was Mayor HHH, Jr., then Sen. HHH, Jr., then V.P. HHH, Jr., then Sen. Muriel Humphrey, then Atty. Gen. HHH, III. Sounds like the silly J. Ventura (an alias) just sidelined the HHH dynasty a little. Can he make a comeback in 2002. He could play tapes of his father speaking, and confused voters might reward him again. I bet the MN liberals really wish he had won, kind of like the algore liberals feel today. Is Governor Ventura a fraud? Or just a showman in the P.T. Barnum style?

People in GA have twice supported handicapped candidates for high office. They revered FDR of Warm Springs. They won't vote against a senator in a wheelchair. Imagine how upset "Georgia Jimmy" would be if his "people" defeated a wheelchair-sitting senator! I think ol' Jimmy would give the people of GA a dressing down they would never forget. Chalk up GA as safely Democrat -- year in and year out!

I remember when Paul Wellstone was elected in 1990, and he vowed to go to Washington and kick Jesse Helms in the rear end. Did he and Jesse ever "make up," or do the two still despise each other? It's hard for me to imagine "our" Jesse despising anyone. Jesse in fact just viewed bILLclinton too softly as a "mixed-up young man who needs a little moral guidance."

My dog would be a far better senator than Wellstone...if you can't figure out whether Wellstone or Coleman would be a better senator than maybe a "conservative news forum" is not the place for you.

I would bet Coleman has read the Constitution, its a short document only about 9,000 words. Do you think that everyone who disagrees with you hasn't read the Constitution?

Only until the right absolute purist comes along and unites all the people with his wisdom and strict adherence to the constitution.

Until then we should all be proud and revel in our losses and hold the bloody shirt of principle over pragmatizm up high. It's good to be a martyr.

GA's "democracy" has a collection of groups that keep it entrenched: blacks, other immigrants, professional liberals, socialists, the elderly, homosexuals, young unmarried women, the governing class at the city and county levels, the poor, who did I miss? Add all these groups up and you are on the verge of 50.0 percent ironclad.

And don't forget the two biggest GA liberals of them all -- Georgia Jimmy and Ted Turner! These gentlemen sway tens of thousands to stick with the Democrats.

I don't LIVE in MN and he probably wouldn't respond to someone who can't vote for him. If you do, perhaps YOU should ask him why his site is so devoid of any substantive issue discussions?

My late friend Larry McDonald frequently reminded us that the ONLY thing you could know about a new arrival in Washington was that he knew how to win an election.

I HOPE Coleman isn't just another empty suit. Time will tell.
