Caracas, April 13 (Bloomberg) -- Venezuela's interim President Pedro Carmona resigned after supporters of Venezuela's deposed leader Hugo Chavez seized control of the presidential palace and demanded his return to power.

Chavez's vice president Diosdado Cabello said he was in control until Chavez returned from a military post in the Caribbean.

Indeed. Chavez needs to die from medical complications asap: blunt trauma to the head after jumping out of a helicopter.

I think a shoulder fired SAM at his helicopter would do the trick... why rely on gravity?

All in all, this has been the worst week for the US in seven months.

Otherwise as Chavez orders them to the firing squad they'll be saying 'Darn, I knew we should have read up on revolutions'.

I wonder just how many neutron bombs we might have... we might have to wipe the world clean and start over.

Good point about the firing squads next week if Chavez survives to return to power.

He must die.

But if the military officers leading the coup were relying on enlisted troops secretly loyal to Chavez, all bets are off, and the officers may have switched places by now, and may themselves be in custody with Chavez holding the keys to their cells.

Actually its not that surprising. We're dealing here with ruthless communists and narco-terrorist elements. You think that they'd be driven from power without a fight? If a new democratic govt reforms and aligns with America, it could have them hurting big time and facing a huntdown. Backs to the wall, they don't need the support of the majority, just a fiery and violent minority. Plus you've got Cuban, Chinese, and other rouge state interests on the line. Not that they can outmuscle the CIA, but they may be willing to expend more and get their hands dirtier faster. No public TV trials in China should they stir a revolt, while Kennedy, Daschle, Leahy, and the Clintons are all preparing accusatory half-truths to leak to the press if a few more Commies are killed. So the CIA has one hand tied behind its back trying to keep it clean enough to show.

The key is if those behind the coup understand how much their lives are at stake. I think the best we can hope for is a bloody suppression or a civil war(not easy words to type). But the desperate Dems would love to have the perception of a Contras-redux for an election issue smear that brings down poll numbers and divides us. Its a good issue, the public knows little, the media will slant it, college brats will adopt the cause(Chavez avators will replace Che ones), and it will take a long time for the actual truth to filter down, if ever. The perfect issue to play lie about and get away with it, trotting out tried and true stereotypes. You watch.

Meanwhile many more S. Americans seeking freedom will die in the name of socialism, Democrat election strategy, and narco politics("I'm a libertarian, I was just having some fun." You really think drug legalization would have stopped these communists?) There's a special place in Hell for Democrat operatives and their media liar whores.

The best solution would be to reinstate Chavez but have an emergency presidential election in two weeks.

The USA isn't GOD; but HE needs to intervine. Too many places, with too big a mess to humanly solve.

One has to wonder , just where are all of the anti-Chavez people and how on earth did the pro-COMMIES get to the military in so short a time. What an utter disaster !

Or at least reinstate his VP as the president with a promise of no violence from both sides, and then hold immediate elections.

New election? Dream on!

If Chavez succeeds with the counter revolution, he will achieve such power he will be dictator for life.

True enough... they took a bold step, they can't go back now.

But the president has already resigned, who will become the next president?
