This is part 2 of this series.
In the last part, we were discussing how to reach out to African Americans in our communities to help them see the light, proselytize if you will, about voting for Simon. Strategies include: known person by known person.
People were saying 90% vote Democrat, etc. But the truth of the matter is that if only 75% voted for Davis, that would certainly help us elect our man.
I wanted to give another (hopeful) example of why we should reach out to the American Black community, as there are a lot of elements of the American Black community and the Republican community that overlap. I live in a pretty mixed ethnic building. Most are (unfortunately) immigrants on our welfare system but there are some blacks in the building as well. A woman on my floor, elder black woman whom I've known for years was wearing a tee shirt that said "Proud of my grandson who is in the MARINES". That started a conversation between us today, and she said, that it was in fact her nephew who was "out in the war somewhere". And I said "Oh you should be proud of him". And she said she was. And she mentioned the biblical prophesy, etc. that she feels correlates to this time.
Another incident is when I worked at an almost all black school and the Principal wanted to have the Boy Scouts there. The SF City Council forbids Boy Scouts on any public property, so she set it up at a nearby church. She liked the Boy Scouts and herself had been in the armed services.
Just reminding people, that although many blacks do vote democrat, the democrats are against what many blacks are for: Church, God, Boy Scouts, Anti-Gay, Anti-Immigration, Pro-Armed Services.
Again, my idea, is if you have friends, etc, we can win this election, one person at a time.
Dr. Rice in Stanford University warmup suit.
We need to convince 10% more of my race to come to the Right. The accomplishment of this goal will result in breaking the back of the Left. You may not see it this way, but, the stakes are indeed high. We need more with a heart like yours to go into battle and do what desparately needs to be done.
I, for one, am glad to see that I am not alone in this struggle. I bid you Godspeed, friend.
....I agree!!
Trying to keep the focus on the *issues* rather than the Parties would be very good. For many middle-of-the-road Jews, illegal immigration is something they don't approve of, nor bilingual education. And...high taxes they dislike. I know that in Los Angeles (home of the great Terry Anderson) there is a Jewish Republican Party. Imagine if Terry Anderson was on KSFO for 3 hours! Or all throughout California! We can fight the good fight together (in SF too!).
It occured to me then, as I am reminded of it now in reflection, that the reasons people vote for parties can be complex and not easily dismantled. It goes far beyond shared value systems or religions. I would say the Republicans have a shot at their share of the black vote, but it may take quite a bit of time and investment to make it happen. I, frankly, don't believe that the party is willing to mount the effort.
