Trapped by a welfare system that won't help him because he's "too poor and destitute." (Boohoohoo!)

A lot of these people don’t want “help,” they want you to take care of all their bills.

There was a woman on the local news interviewed during the power “crisis.” At the time there was a program to help people pay their electricity bill. “This won’t cover my bill,” says the old bag. Sheesh, it’s to HELP – not to cover the entire thing.

I think that if these folks get any public assistance of any kind their name should be listed so they can be contacted to return the favor. They can come over and do a load of laundry, or wash the car, dishes – I can find something for them to do.

You state “I'm betting that this poor guy has the absolute right to live and work in America; that he is not an illegal alien and WAS born and raised here in the US of A

The article states “Hampered by a lack of education and difficulty speaking English,..” also “Like Leija, 45, they turn to homeless shelters…”

My guess is that a 45 year old man lacking education and having difficulty speaking English is not a native born American. As to his citizenship status, that is another matter.

"I get on the bus and get downtown and I forget what to do," he said.

Hmmm, let's see. After waiting at the bus stop, he remembered to get on the bus going downtown. After getting on the bus, he remembered to get off the bus when it arrived downtown. So, why can't he remember to WRITE DOWN why he's getting on the bus to go downtown? Let me guess, then he would be unable to remember that he wrote something down and/or where he wrote it? Uh huh, sure.

"The whole thing smells of lawyers."

The country would be better off without 80% of them. Wouldn't have enough time to dream up lawsuits for a 1/3 take.

Just a random thought here, but speaking of Darwinism, why is it that left-wingers wholeheartedly support Darwin in the Science class but not in society at large? If they truly believed in Darwinism wouldn't warning labels, smoking bans and welfare be non-existent?

And for that matter, why is it you never see Creationists take issue with the Darwin Awards?

I have wondered about that a time or two. I have come to the conclusion that liberals think they are smarter than God. Faced with the sometimes cruel realities of the world (such as social Darwinism), they are unable to deal with the fact that the sun isn't always shining-God never promised that-charity is supposed to come into play here-the VOLUNTARY assistance given by a person or organization to those less fortunate. But since liberals believe we must give equally to every human whether they are a deserving individual or one who seeks to take advantage of those who work hard for what they have, they dream up programs to force the rest of us save everyone, no matter their condition or motives.

Walk it off son... Go to Taxachusetts or something.

I'm sorry. I don't have a lot of sympathy when out of staters mover here to collect welfare paid for my Michigan tax dollars.

Boo hoo hoo is right.

He's 45 years old and can't speak English!

Whenever I shop at my local Price Chopper I always notice a young guy who has very bad legs - very crooked causing him to lurch all over the place. Yet he's working hard. Pushing huge carts loaded with boxes, stocking shelves, etc. I have only the greatest admiration and respect for this man.

I don't think Price Chopper pays much and I don't think they offer any benefits. But I'd be more than happy to see my taxes go to assisting this guy.

Not to defend liberalism, but there is a difference between claiming that Darwinism is an accurate description of the history of life on Earth, and claiming that is provides a model of the ideal human society. Not that I think liberals understand the difference.

Eric Glatz, a consumer relations advocate for Muskegon's Disability Awareness Center for Independent Living,...said "blahblahblah"...

Well, if Mr. Glatz is so ^$%$%%^&^& worried about the "disabled", why doesn't he resign and let Mr. Leija have his job?
That's the problem, all these dang "advocates" and "groups" that suck up so much money in taxes that there is NOTHING left in the economy to create low-level jobs for people like Leija to do.

I'm not sure. Does it say anywhere that we can't?

Unfortunately, there is, Art. IV, Sec. 3 of the US Constitution. Unless you can get Congress to go along. Although there might be a loophole in the language that would allow it, but don't hold your breath on the Courts allowing that loophole, even if people in the to be incorpated areas held a vote.

That secion was violated with the creation of West Virgina out of Virgina, unless Virgina wasn't a state at the time, in which case the Union Army was off conquering a foreign country, not putting down a "rebellion". Of course Lincoln got it both ways, having the Confederate states be in rebellion and yet carving W. Va. out of Va.

Moving the Texas borders would almost by definition mean increasing the percentage of liberals, so just having the not liberals moving to Texas would seem a better idea.

Dude, this is HILARIOUS. This is a joke, right? This didn't really happen, did it? 'Leija' should be in a mental institution. And what about the 'journalist' that 'wrote' this. He should have his head examined! LOL

I see that a lot around here. It's not only that these people work for less (they could hire students or uneducated people for the same jobs) but that they are hard workers, reliable and friendly. I actually have become friends with a few of them. How can you resist such people? Most of the grocery stores around here don't allow tipping which is a shame. These people would make big bucks! How many other people have the knack to make you smile at the check out? That, to me, is worth a bonus!

Maybe. OTOH, you might have a better chance of having an "open season" on them in Texas.

I'm betting that this poor guy has the absolute right to live and work in America; that he is not an illegal alien and WAS born and raised here in the US of A; and that there is no place in another country that he truly calls home

"Hampered by a lack of education and difficulty speaking English"

Note he no habla the inglese. In that case maybe he should sue the state for failing to ensure he can speak English. That way he can suck on the guvmint tit in another way.
