What about doing something at MayFest in Fort Worth? I think it's the second weekend of May (that would be May 9-12). Friday night is always good, with the Fort Worth symphony doing the 1812 Overture with fireworks!

Now that you post that, I remember more of what the weather dude said. He said that they often can't determine the windspeed inside a tornado, so they base the F- rating on the damage that results.

Houston? Don't worry, you've got until midnight to seek shelter in the community cellar(salt dome).

Speaking of bad tornadoes, that Jarrell one really raised this native's eyebrows. Sucked up the grass and pavement from the roads.

I'm east of Dallas in Mesquite and I have a program called Weatherbug. It gives a very good report on the weather for my zip code right here on my computer. It's free at Weatherbug.com. The only thing I did with it that I have to warn people about is that there is a warning sound like a chirp that I had to disable because of all of the alerts in Texas.

Breaking news: Apparently no more weather threats in Texas. The Weather Channel just broke in with an emergency broadcast of "Atmospheres".

Sheesh, what a waste that channel has become. Thank goodness for the internet.

You are right, I don't think they know. I seen one investigator at a tornado site trying to determine the strength of a tornado.. somewhere. He came to the instantious conclusion that is was an F5 as soon as he seen a Ford Escort driven into the girders of an overpass one mile away!

I remember reading a book on tornados back in the 1960's and at that time, they thought the windspeed could reach 500 MPH.

I got off here to look at TWC during the 4 PM hour, same thing.Do they really need a dinner break during an hour when there are that many severe weather warnings being issued?

Ain't that the truth! I have seen their radar, when severe storms are approaching, show the same imagery over an over for hours...after the storm had hit and left. I mean, if you kept looking at their radar, the storm never arrived yet! That station will get you killed!
