Most of us grew up with pocket knives *always* in our pockets

And occasionally a teacher would ask to borrow "one of you boys' knives" during class and think nothing of it. And in the South even having a gun in your car was okay since boys going shooting or hunting after school was no more unusual and caused no more alarm than going golfing or fishing.

This wasn't that long ago. It's a different world now.

Yes, it is a different world now. My question is, since when did free men start allowing government to define the shape of the "world", and why do they continue to accept it?

This wasn't that long ago.

I was carrying a shotgun and shells to school in the early 1960's to go duck hunting with after school. Even carried it on the school bus a couple of times.

BTW,now it's even illegal for someone the age I was then to even OWN the damn gun, never mind take it to school. Any kid who tried that today would end up getting kicked out of shcool and getting his parents arrested.

I'm the only woman I know who carries a couple of small pocket knives in my purse. My co workers know that I have them. I can't begin to tell you how many times someone has asked to borrow one to open a package. Also, I haven't traveled since Sept. 11th. When I do, I will have to be very, very careful when I pack as I'm used to having these knives in my purse and will have to sure to remove them before I go to the airport.
