WASHINGTON
Captured Al Qaeda official Abu Zubaydah won't be tortured by the U.S. or allied interrogators, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said yesterday.
"We intend to get every single thing out of him to try to prevent terrorist acts in the future," Rumsfeld said, but the idea that the U.S. might use proxy torturers to keep its hands clean was "wrong and irresponsible."
"Believe me, reports to that effect are wrong, inaccurate, not happening and will not happen," he said. "He will be properly interrogated by proper people, who know how to do those things."
The interrogators probably will be from the CIA and the FBI, and not from the Pentagon, Rumsfeld said.
"I would hope that every single thing that this very senior Al Qaeda operative knows would ultimately come out of him," he said.
Zubaydah, 32, a Saudi-born Palestinian, suffered three gunshot wounds last week in a raid by the FBI and Pakistani police.
The raid was one of several in Pakistani cities that resulted in the capture of about 50 suspected Al Qaeda members.
Police said yesterday that explosives and bomb-making manuals were found during one of the raids.
Zubaydah is thought to be Osama Bin Laden's top recruiter and one of his senior advisers.
Rumsfeld said Zubaydah was in U.S. custody in the region and was receiving treatment for his wounds, which were not life-threatening.
"Our concern is keeping him alive at the present time," Rumsfeld said. "Here's a man who knows about additional acts. Here's a man who trained people to do this," Rumsfeld said.
He declined to say whether Zubaydah would be moved to the U.S. Naval Base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where 300 suspected Al Qaeda and Taliban members are being held. An additional 200 suspects are in U.S. custody in Afghanistan.

They might as well torture him, he'll claim they did anyway.

OK, but not until he's spilled his guts (not literally, of course, that can come later).

That he will, if he is able to afterwards, if they use the same old Tactics that some of us used in Nam. If we don't then we should let the Rock Marines have him for a couple of hours and he will chirp like a bird afterwards...

The liberal-scum-media tried to tar and feather old Rummy yesterday about this piece of camel dung. Makes you wonder if they actually root for the terrorists to succeed.

What did the media say about Rumsfeld yesterday?

Its according to the 'definition' of torture. We can 'question' him!

A room temperature bacon grease shower wouldn't cause any physical harm or pain.

I have been arguing for weeks that we ought to be shipping all terrorists to Turkey for Islamic interrogations.

Take him up in a helo and check out his flying ability. That would not qualify as torture.
