CBS continues its bias against the powerful Marylamd Terrapins. It started last year at the NCAA Final Four with CBS's Bonnie Bernstein question to Maryland Coach Gary Williams at the half of the Maryland - Duke Nationasl Semi-Final game with Maryland leading by 12... How are you going to slow down Duke's great comeback? Gary responds... "Looking at the scoreboard, we're up by 12..."
Once again tonight, the pathetic CBS played the Terps for losers until the Cinderalla Indiana story wasn't going to pan out. At which time Larry Nanace and Billy packer started to "Fear the Turtle". Pathetic
Musical Tragicomedy: The Hoosiers Lost! [Brahms, "Waltz No. 3"]
I am a lifelong UCLA fan. Once Steve Lavin gets a few more years under his belt and learns you don't need five superstar high school egos to win championships (he is actually too good of a recruiter), they will hang more banners at Pauly (if the Kingdom doesn't come first). Hey Steve, Juan Dixon was a nobody when he came out of high school, as was a guy with the last name of Jordan.
Regards,
I thought Packer was way out of line when he said: "This is one of the strangest Championship games I have ever seen" after it became clear that Maryland was going to win.
It was not strange at all.
A good Indiana team make things close for a Maryland team that is truly awesome - but which is non-flamboyant - unlike Duke, the perpetual wonder team of Dick Vitale and the media.
Baxter has always been a terrific player but one who hasn't had the press of a Shane Battier of last year. And while Jason Williams of Duke is an awesome player - he lost several close games with his inept free throwing. Juan Dixon, on the other hand, ALWAYS came through for Maryland in the clutch - and should have been player of the year! (what a story he is).
Maryland just has some terrific, hard working, non-flamboyant players and I LOVED SEEING THEM WIN - and seeing the oh so overconfident Dukies get beat by that good Indiana team on its way there.
Congrats to both teams.
