I think perhaps it won an award specifically because it's not an easy issue to think about. Another photo that stuck out in my mind is of the VC being shot in the head, or the napalm girl. Those are ghastly images, but very powerful. This is the same thing. I think Sept. 11th should be a category to itself--to much there for just one award.

Maybe this photo won because it resulted in the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perps??

This is just a bunch of punks taking advantage of a situation to get some jollies, and the pictures are not on the same level as Napalm Girl. (IMHO)

Gee, based on these criteria he could have won photographer of the decade if he'd snapped a snuff pik.

That photo is not rated PG. I wanted to vomit looking at that picture. The smiles on the faces of those men are evil. Not one is trying to help her, they're just trying to finger her. Tells you a lot about human nature.

And in spite of being on film committing sexual assault, I bet none of them were arrested or charged with anything.

They all ought to be Comment Removed by Moderator

Doubtful that they would arrest anyone in Seattle for this, I haven't heard any legal action mentioned..

The award was won on a snuff pic, or close to it.

This makes me want to puke when I scrolled the other competitve pictures in the same category from the NYPD funerals.

..these people in the photo should be identified and thrown into jail along with the camerman.

If what's going on is happening before the cameraman can stop it, then a picture of the animals is the next best thing. It may convict a few. The cameraman would have likely been assaulted and the film destroyed if he had intervened at the point shown in the picture, IMHO. Damn, but having said that. I don't know how anyone could walk away from that without stopping it and suffering the consequences.

That is a lot more than rated PG. It made me sick.

No wonder 95% of the police in Seattle want to boot the police chief, who prevented the rank and file officers from cracking down on the riot, which was caused by young black "men".

Of course the fact that a young man, Ken Kimes, was murdered when he tried to help some young women who were being assaulted.

Dont leave out the black lesbo groping some boobs in the top middle of the picture.

The sad thing is thay 4 out of the 5 judges AGREED it was picture of the year.

I saw a firefighter praying with the Statue of Liberty in the background on the contest photo site that would have been much more suitable.

While I hate old 42 as much as anyone, drunken men in a group situation taking advantage of female goes back far further than 1992.

No, he must have been on the judging panel.

If in fact this is true, i.e. not staged, then the photo should be used to identify this mass of thugs and to bring criminal charges against them. As well, the photographer for sitting idly by snapping photos, his action was no less vile. His photo-groping won him an award?

Yep, it didn't take long for the media to revert to their agenda. In Colorado a local TV station just ran an "investigavive" piece attacking a local fire department for some fireman playing a juvenile barracks game called "buttball." They admitted withholding the piece from September last year. Guess they figure its time they can revert to the usual attack pieces, i.e. all men are rapists, all policemen are brutal, all fireman are misogynists, you know the tripe.

It really is disgusting they are withholding awards from 9-11 pictures.
