Of the best rulers,
The people only know that they exist;
The next best they love and praise
The next they fear;
And the next they revile.
When they do not command the peoples faith,
Some will lose faith in them,
And then they resort to oaths!
But of the best when their task is accomplished, their work done,
The people all remark, We have done it ourselves. --Lao-Tzu Chinese philosopher 6th century BC

There was a French general who told Churchill that Englands head would be wrung like a chicken.
I believe his name was Weygand. The French also tended to turn in Jews to the nazis.
What a track record! I read today that a synagogue was blown up in Marsielles. Hey...
that's sophistication... anti-semite style. So much more stylish to wear a black beret and support Islam.
Israel will do what has to be done.

Without the Japs attacking us at Pearl Harbor he would have
Hitler would have kicked Russias butt without the Siberia divisions withdrawn from the Japanese front and if the USA hadn't come in Hitler free to rearm to the teeth with all new weaponry would have been back at Britain in no time. And without USA convoys and supplies Britain was doomed

The statement referred to England having it's neck wrung like a chicken's.
Churchill's response to Parliament: "Some chicken! Some neck!"

I urge all Freepers to read
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.... History is repeating itself in the Middle East. Muslims like Arafat's uncle chose to follow the Nazis during WW II. Hitler lied all the time to everybody for simple political expediency. He lied because he knew Appeasers in the U.K. and in France wanted to believe his lies. He lied because he knew he could get away with lying. Now the Palestinians are dedicated to killing all Israelis and lying abuot it. Just like the Nazis believed the Jewish people were fit only for extermination.

I happen to be reading Churchill's The Gathering Storm right now and the parallels to today are striking. We have our appeasers who speak of "Peace For Our Time" and of making deals with tyrants while evil is allowed to flourish. Just as the U.S. and Europe stood by while Austria and the Czechoslovakia were swallowed up, we are standing by while Israel gets attacked on nearly a daily basis. Just as we told Czechoslovakia to make territory concessions to Hitler and to "make a deal" so that we would not have to fight a war, we stand around today asking Israel to cave in to the Palestinians so that we don't have to get our hands dirty. It's a disgrace.

"Victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival." --Winston Churchill, British statesman Unfortunately, the actor Richard Burton had a very low opinion of Churchill. Nevertheless, Burton gives this particular sentence of Churchill's a very exciting delivery at the end of the TV movie also entitled The Gathering Storm.

to "make a deal" so that we would not have to fight a war, we stand around today asking Israel to cave in to the Palestinians so that we don't have to get our hands dirty. It's a disgrace. I disagree. Maybe our Leader and his advisers are being more subtle and roundabout. With "Nobel Peace Prize winner" Arafat in place, there's an enormous image problem with American intervention. Imagine what the French and Kofi Annan would do with it!
Now think of a world with Arafat exiled to some place where he can't mount a phony "peace offensive." The terrorists will quickly be revealed to the world as exactly what they are and Arafat won't be around to muddle the message and make it sound like he's pursuing peace. He's a total fraud and has been running this shell game as long as I can recall. His exile may be just the device that will free Bush really solve the problem once and for all.

Now think of a world with Arafat exiled to some place where he can't mount a phony "peace offensive." And where might that be? Some place where CNN, MSNBC, Al-Jazzira, AFP, AP, UPI and the rest can't get to him? Where he is now comes closer than some Arab/Muslim country would ever be. There is one place that fits the bill though, the fires of hell.

Yeah, I've had the same thought. Last I heard Morrocco was being considered. The Devil's in the details and I could be wrong -- but if I am, what is this all about? What was in Sharon's mind when he approved the plan? Maybe there'll be some sort of "regrettable accident" somewhere along the line, Mossad-style.

Ahhh, so true. It was so for Winston.

Like Napoleon, Hitler was really defeated by the Russian winter and the resolve of the starving population.

Unlike the Muslim countries, Hitler had a stong industrial base and a big war machine. His weakness was oil. Our only weakness is oil. Congress better wise up.

We cannot under the war on terrorists that exists, send troups to help Israel. Israel doesn't need that kind of help. She is well able to knock the he$$ out of the Palistinians and has done so twice in the last 50 years. They need and are getting our support on the world stage. There is no way GWB will not back Israel.
It is incumbent upon the peopel of this country to let Congress know we want stong congressional support for this war. We do have a voice.

It is true, oil is AN Achilles heel, but not a fatal vulnerability. If we needed to, we could get by without imported oil, through both restrictions on internal consumption and on massive new drilling and refinery openings. It would take a year or two to begin to ease, but we've done harder things.

You are right, but wouldn't it be better to develope other sources? We can make do in any event, but that is not the answer. We did that during WWII. Food and gas rationing. I still have gas rations.
