SAN FRANCISCO, March 30 (IslamOnline & News Agencies)-The world renowned American actor Danny Glover denounced the U.S. military campaign against Afghanistan since September 11 in the pilot issue of the bi-weekly War Times, aiming to uncover the whole truth about what is going on Afghanistan, the Guardian reported.
The papers editors maintain that the media in the U.S. is not showing the full picture of exactly what is happening in Afghanistan as a result of the American attacks since September 11.
The editors assert that the newspaper is a response to increased demand for more information on exactly what is happening in Afghanistan and the possibility of further conflicts.
The managing editor of War Times Bob Wing said the demand for the paper, whose slogan is the first casualty of war is the truth, was so great that they had to print and distribute 100,000 copies instead of the originally planned 7,500.
Glover said "bombing Afghanistan and creating the idea that the U.S. is the judge, the jury and the executioner is the wrong way to respond."
"It's hard because of the anger, the pain and the humiliation we feel about September 11. But we have to understand that other people have faced the same kind of pain, the same kind of anger.
"Their lives have been transformed by acts of terrorism and violence, often supported or perpetrated by the U.S."
Wing said the aim of the paper is "to report hidden truths, to put a human face on events, and explore the real interests behind the 'permanent war'."
Based in San Francisco, the first issue of the paper will be distributed on April 12 and will be published in English and Spanish.
Prominent figures and organizations such as Noam Chomsky, anti-war groups, and labor organizations are supportive of the newspaper.
The paper is also supported by former editor in chief of Cross Roads, Max Album, Orlando Garcia from the National Network for the Rights of Refugee and Asylum seekers, Howard Zen, a historian, Iris Moras a movie director, Catheline Cliver, director of an institute for human rights research, Roxanne Dunbar-Ortiz, head of a feminist research organization, and Barbara Den, a musician.
When I saw the kids going to school and enjoying life again, I knew we have done the right thing!
'Back to school' for 1.5 million Afghan children (and more from other newssources)
You're the only one who is being humiliated. We're kicking butt.
Fine. But before we do that, let's show the REAL film from Ground Zero on 9-11 to the people of this country. We get sanitized news for "our own good." Let's have it.
Glover's on a list of mine that includes: Jane Fonda, Rosie O'Donnel, Whoopee Goldberg and several other anti-Americans.
I won't even remain in the same room if someone is watching one of them on TV. It might sound extreme, but I just can't get over what those people are all about.
Has Glover given us his wisdom on Sudan and Zimbabwe ?
The apparent motive of the "newspaper" is to present a text devoid of debate rather than the opposite, to present a package of prejudices for a pre-convinced audience without the temptation of a click to another news site, with the mystique of revealed truths and a claim to struggle against "censorship" (aka "criticism" in the current lefty parlance). The "newspaper" is a reaction to the internet which is often proclaimed as liberating. Very true, but there's blowback. Glover's paper would operate in the modern communication world as a form of censorship and control of willing readers, distressed that their anti-American mentality is challenged by events, confounded by their inability to add anything important to a debate, and experienced challenges to their (obsessive) arguments by a public better informed compelled by the works of Osama Bin Laden.
I imagine the paper will be a gabfest free of troublesome facts and opinions and will be bandied as an identity marker for the loony left. For sure the tack will be anti-Americanism, rather than even-handed discussion of relevant facts and events.
Guilt ridden Glover states:
It's hard because of the anger, the pain and the humiliation we feel about September 11. But we have to understand that other people have faced the same kind of pain, the same kind of anger.Humiliation? This has an odd ring to it, like the loopies who think they sympathize with Arabs by using this word because they understand the Arab male psyche with its alleged preoccupation with "humiliation." That's only place I've heard the word, but it's a minor point. "Other people have faced the same kind of anger." Implied premise being, we're not being told of this "anger" and Danny is going to reveal it to us. Really? The paper is full of articles about Indians, Palestinians, Israelis, Kurds, Afghans, Afghan ethnics, colombians, etc. etc. An arrogant and false premise.
"Their lives have been transformed by acts of terrorism and violence, often supported or perpetrated by the U.S."
Ah, yes, now Danny reveals what he wishes to reveal. Assume its true. (and certainly arguments readily available, despite Danny's implication otherwise). So what? Did the Vietnamese bomb us? How is that "connected" to this event? Connection and causation are not really at issue except to maintain an anti-American identity somehow, anyhow. Primary agenda - negating any fact that might not make America a bad actor or responsive to harms caused to it.
In all, I think the paper will be a dud. New York lefties in the kill zone aren't going to go for it much. And there's the internet. Curiousity is a strong human element.
Let's all hope Danny Glover takes a trip to downtown Johannesburg to see what his pal Mandela and the African National Congress have done for the country...
Saudi Arabia, anyone???
