I kind of like the new format, but it is a little more tramatic to click on replies and get a whole page in response that says, "No replies" -that hurts worse somehow than just scanning and seeing that your reply merited no response. Hey, we have thick skins though, don't we? Well don't we?......really, we do don't we?.....Thin skin is curable isn't it? Maybe Science will come up with a new miracle cure.

I have just registered (hello..) and customized my account to show "breaking..." in the right side bar... but.... "breaking is to short", only 5 items, i want 50!.

where would "a day in the life of president bush" be under? Can't go to bed without my fix. It will take a while to navigate this site.

I am confused... because that "View Replies" feature was in the old version too... and displayed the same message... perhaps it was just now moved into your view? - you can see the whole thread can't you?
To: etabeta
I am not sure... If it isn't here in News... It would be in General Interest, where the fun stuff is. America the Right Way is there, and the Guild, and most of the other dailies...

Welcome to Free Republic! You know know more about the new version than a lot of the people on these complaining threads... because you looked!

To all who are having a rough time of it, hang in there. We'll get all of this sorted out soon. Thanks, Jim<
Ok Jim, I just ask that you remember one thing. Its not "FreeRepublic" the site that makes it great here, its the POSTERS who actually post the latest breaking and other news stories. Its not the software, its not the moderators, its not you - you and the moderators are faciliators who help to make this happen and you do good work, but the news stories posters are the real "workers" who make this site what it is.
The ability to find Breaking News is/was what once made FreeRepublic great. With the last change (only 5 news stories in the sidebar) and with moderators now editing out breaking news stories because they appear to be reposts (in many cases, they are updates and more detailed stories than the "first" post, and that was GOOD), finding the latest breaking news isn't so easy anymore. I often find myself going to Drudge, AP and Reuters wires first nowadays.
And if you do only one thing, kill that left side faded flag border that wastes so much space! See my post #37 for other comments, thanks.

Ok, my well thought out mature complaint is that I wish they had kept the old forum going at least until they got the new "Find in forum" implemented.
I used the beta site many times and like some of the new features but always found myself going back to the ease and useability of the old forum. I guess I knew it wouldn't last but I figured they'd work out the issues before "beta" became "exclusive."

I think I saw on another thread a way to get a full screen of nothing but the posts in breaking news!
To: rs79bm
I'm new to FR, but I think this "new" format is remarkably flexible and adaptable. I've lurked here for a long time, so I know what it was like (just yesterday), and I'm really liking the new features and overall concept. (I also like watching my fellow conservatives grapple with change.... ;-) )

Great Posts E. Here's another suggestion to "Subscribe" or "Unsubscribe". Have a single page where a person could subscribe or unsubscribe by simply putting a check mark in front of the topic.

Gosh I'm glad this was put up; we needed another thread about this. Tell me about it. what is this, the 20th bitchin' 'n moanin' thread today??? Sheesh! Where is CJ and his crying baby pics when they would actually be useful and warranted? LOL!!

I think it's faster, though -- or is it my imagination?

I don't remember ever seeing it in it's present form. How soon I forget-can't recall the title, but under the old format I went to the page that listed my posts and the replys to them and notice of posts that I was interested in.
Like I said I like the new format and was just trying to defuse all the whining with a little comedy.
To: Oremus
Whining or no whining, I came here for breaking news, and I can't find it. I'm of the mind "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", too. The one thing I like is the flag on the side. Some people like to make change just for the sake of change, when it's simply not necessary. Waste of time, energy and resources.

I think I saw on another thread a way to get a full screen of nothing but the posts in breaking news! True, but i want all on one page.
Let me also say this: Freerepublic is the blood in the body of the non elitist conservative activist scene, without Freerepublic (and the internet) we are all toast.

Here's another suggestion to "Subscribe" or "Unsubscribe". Have a single page where a person could subscribe or unsubscribe by simply putting a check mark in front of the topic. This is an excellent idea, I've seen it used at other sites such as Yahoo under the user "preferences." List all the topics under the preferences so you can see them all and subscribe/unsubscribe there. You could have "default" Breaking News and Front Page News for new memebers.
