BACKGROUND Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother is the mother of Queen Elizabeth II, the present British sovereign, and the widow of the late King George VI. She was born the Honourable Elizabeth Angela Marguerite Bowes-Lyon on 4 August 1900 (daughter of Lord Glamis, later 14th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne) and spent her early childhood at St Paul's Waldenbury in Hertfordshire, north of the capital. This was the country home of her parents. The Bowes-Lyon family is descended from the Royal House of Scotland. One of The Queen Mother's 14th-century ancestors became Thane of Glamis, home of Macbeth 300 years before, and Glamis Castle is the family seat

LONDON (Reuters) - The Queen Mother, the 101-year-old mother of Britain's Queen Elizabeth, died on Saturday, Buckingham Palace said.
The Queen Mother, the widow of King George VI and a rock of support behind her eldest daughter Queen Elizabeth, died "peacefully in her sleep" after a period of declining health.
Her death adds personal tragedy to a succession of domestic traumas suffered by the royal family in recent years, most recently the death on February 9 of her younger daughter, Princess Margaret at the age of 71.

May God welcome this good woman home and bring peace and comfort to the grieving British people.
Her strength helped her people through terrible times and she was an anchor for both her family and her people.
God bless the Queen Mum.

How sad... she had a lot of class. She had to witness some pretty unseemly behavior among the new generation of royals... Maybe she can guide them back into behaving respectably again now from above.

My most heartfelt condolences to our cousins across the pond. She was indeed a gracious Queen, a grand and great lady.

A fine lady, and one of the last living symbols of British courage in WWII.
If you look at the Obituaries in the Times or the Telegraph, you see some British war hero's obit two or three times a week. Same thing in this country, only the obits are not concentrated in a few big papers where they're visible as a group. We'll soon have very few who remember the last war with racist nationalism and fascism.

I feel so sorry for all our British friends. May God rest her soul and give the Queen and all the royal family His comfort.

She has had a long, extraordinary life. May she now rest in peace!
And may God bless her family, especially the Queen, who has had so much to deal with lately.
