This is a major project, this had a compelling motivation, and this was NOT fun and games. Agreed. I think where people are frustrated is that there was no explanation (not that we are owed one. We are all lucky to have FR as it is). It was just done. There was a beta test and then *wham* a whole new format.
People who liked it the way it was are confused as to why it needed to be changed, and that confusion is punctuated by the fact that no one really knows why it was changed.

It's not taking any longer to load on my computer.... and I'm using a dial up, with a 56K modem. Same here.
The changes were a bit of a shock at first, but once I found out how to get breaking news back on my sidebar, I figured I'd live.
I didnt really notice any change at first, other than the flag, until I read the posts complaining about them. Some times it is nice to go through life oblivious to certain things
hah.

I think Jim or John should have come onto the forum and explained the rationale for the changes. We are shareholders in a way ... we care about the well being of the enterprise, and frankly a draconian software re-engineering indicates a resource limitation or a financial difficulty to me. And, all those who want to retain the old interface could be given a choice ... pony up for a $14,000 server installation if that will open up the capacity to reinstall the old system. That's a legitimate quandry.

See 584. Regards!

I've sometimes thought of creating a female alias and scouring the web for an obscure but really hot photo to post just to see what kind of replies I get from lonely FReeper dudes. Of course I would never do this. That would be a clear violation of posting guidelines.
Plus, I have a hard enough time keeping track of my own posts and replies.

Your first post to me on this thread was a personal attack, which 'appy pappy' cheered on. You were whining yesterday, you're still whining.
I suppose you'll be whining tomorrow?
Do you run outside and chase kids off your lawn?

I'm trying to find Happygal but here I am talking to myself. I'm lost but beginning to like it better. I'm accustomed to talking to myself but not to answering myself.
To: Nogbad
It's pretty bad!!!!

This new format looks like CNN HEADLINE NEWS!
To: DouglasKC
"This new format is WAY too busy. The GOAL is to get to the threads, read them and post to them. The new layout makes that more difficult."
-- I agree. -- The old 'no sidebar' format should be the base. -- Adding all the new bells and whistles should be personal options.

Please, h'up. John is far too busy destroying Free Republic with reformatting changes to worry about antifreepers right now. Haven't you been following this thread?
And speaking of antifreepers: Did my private emails to a former FR member ever get posted, as they were promising/threatening to do?
If only John would have checked with antifreepers in the first place, the reformatting wouldn't be a problem. It would be 1999 forever.
To: Humbug
I don't believe you can change it, at least not yet.....
Thanks!

sink ... if Jim hasn't disposed of that legal mess he needs some sage advice. The software here has value, the Post and Times have message forums ... you know what I mean? God, I learned over time to go face to face and shitcan the lawyers. They draw up the paperwork from our direction, that's what they are good for. Jim's in revenue box as long as he's under court order ... get rid of it ASAP ... then charge $25 per, annually for access here. That's the cover charge, that's the good faith investment in the forum.
Sink, you and I both have inklings about the life view of people who would be willing to throw $25 at BadJoe for Logon authorization. All of the Canteeners! The positive and happy people. The immigration threads would vanish.

I think it will take a little getting used to- WHAT WAS IT BUILT WITH??? (Microsoft .NET ?)

your complaint's been noted, ehh?
give it a rest ...
To: Nogbad
I agree. This sucks.
To: Nogbad, all
Is anyone able to do a search for posts from a specific FReeper? For example, to search for Jim Robinson, you could use this URL (http://www.freerepublic.com/perl/latest?from_user=1). Now my browser switches over to (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/browse), when I try this.
To: thatsnotnice
My loading time on my big screen Web and my computer are the same.
I like the changes.
I'm looking forward to a spell checker. Please!
