No, this is awful!
I don't know where anything is anymore!
Where are the sidebars?
I used to go straight to them
to find out
what was going on.

Oh, I didn't say that. That was just my response to Happygal's post #11.
I tried the beta version, didn't like it, and hoped the change would never happen.
I was actually surfing FR when it did. In a minute it went from the old version to the new and my world was disrupted! :-)

I cannot believe all the whining! Try going to "view" on the top of page then click on "text size" you can make your page as readable as you like.

Having trouble getting around here? simply set an elementary school (or younger) child at the keyboard. They will have it figured out in nano-seconds. Once you get over the initial shock, everything is still there and as readily available as always......took me a bit, but I'm back to cruisin speed.

Telling the truth is flame proof.
It took me about 5 minutes back in 1998 to figure out that this is the most intuitive, accessable and powerful message board I'd ever seen. My first trip here, Billie posted an animation GIF of a himp jumping up and down with the comment ... "Hey Ash, your mother's calling!" What a delightful surprise. LOL! I loved Billie then, and I love her still.
Animation GIFs in a message board? Never saw it before and I haven't seen it anywhere since. This is not a message board, it's way past that ... this is a communitry canvas of multimedia magical delight. This is as good as it gets in software design, and dumb me, I appreciate it.
And these clods are picking nits?

ARE THE COMPLAINERS A BUNCH OF FOSSILIZED LUDITES?
Perhaps.
Perhaps we all just live in an era when the RATE of CHANGE is ever escalating to egregious degrees and our change muscles are fatigued.
HOWEVER, Personally, I think we ought to try most new things at least 3-7 weeks before we have enough experience and observations to make a reasonable assessment.
Beyond that, I have enormous faith in John's efforts and in his taste. I'm happy to give this a go. Fresh perspective doesn't hurt conservatives no matter how much they howl and scream and throw dust in the air.
BTW, we should save our sackcloth and ashes for the Israeli situation. . . and for our own shores where more "dramatic disciplines" much worse than 9/11 are scheduled--particularly given the lack of humility, contrition and change of heart and ways.
The improvements hereon are quite welcome and much appreciated--if nothing else--for the heart and effort that went into them. But also, because, I believe at least parts of them are genuine improvments much more pleasing to my life hereon. . . . not that the old was bad--this is just--well--an improvement.
No whining from my corner. JUST HUGE THANKS, JOHN!

I read the sidebar info again.
To add a topic to the sidebar, select a topic from the Topics page. The lefthand column will provide a link "Click here to subscribe."
I tried to do this but don't see any thing like what is described.

I just looked under the "My Preferences" screen, and I could not find the option to use the old version of FR.
This is truly a sad day.

"Telling the truth is flame proof."Oh, I agree! It just didn't seem like this thread was into truth...or reality! LOL!!
It's been fun watching all the knee-jerk reactions to something that has obviously not even been checked out to any degree.

Thanks everyone who helped me figure it out. I got the Breaking News to show up on the sidebar but there is only 4 articles there. Grrr. Is that how many everyone else is getting?

OK, the ONLY feature I like is the ability to change "time zones" and have adjusted it to my Central time zone...END OF SUCK-UP!

I don't like it. I also use WebTv, big easy chair, and big screen TV. Sitting at the computer is a bummer when reading news stories for a couple of hours.

So how do you find "find someone in the forum"? Where's that feature? Click on "Search" and in bold maroon letters up top it says:
Find User Click Here

You can say what you like. Try search. Or post your own stories and comments. Changing the format of FR is not the downfall of western civialsation.

The Robinsons are either laughing or going ... bidness as usual.
To: spectre
Of course if someone has a user name that's difficult to remember the spelling, I'd recommend cutting and pasting it. It was much easier to do a search on their profile page.
