N.J. Governor Tries to Hide Tax Lie

New Jersey voters must be kicking themselves. When he ran against conservative Bret Schundler for governor, Democrat Jim McGreevey vowed not to raise taxes, but just like Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, he's all too eager to show his true colors.

The day after he was elected he reiterated his campaign promise: "I am ruling out a tax increase." But in his first budget, released this week, McGreevey proposed tax increases on businesses (and thus consumers) and cigarettes - though now he claims his word applied only to taxes on income, gasoline and sales.

"It should not come as much of a surprise, as he has been edging slowly away from his seemingly blanket declaration since he was elected," United Press International reported today.

"What is a surprise is that McGreevey 'muzzled' - to quote the North Jersey Media Group's Wendy Ruderman - top officials in his administration, including State Treasurer John McCormac, breaking with tradition and refusing to make them available to answer questions about the budget from the media on the record."

"While a McGreevey spokesman did offer to make several officials available to the press after the governor's Tuesday budget address, the press was told that their names could not be used and that television cameras and photographers were not permitted to attend the Q&A session. Dozens of reporters walked out of the briefing in protest."

Have politicians still not learned from the sorry example of White House one-termer George H.W. "Read My Lips" Bush?

Looks like our governor is a McGreev-ous liar. Not surprising that a DemocRat would act this way, really. Remember those short-lived "McGreevey = Higher taxes" signs during the campaign? How right they were! No wonder the Dems pulled up every one they could find.

Spread the word. McGreevey = Florio II.

Not only that, but our NJ State Police super is now just a poc (plain-old-civilian); can't wear a badge; can't wear a uniform. Why, you ask? Because somebody lied (opps... make that 'made a typo') stating that he graduated from the police acadmey in a class that... well... just did not exists.

I can dig up a source if someone needs it, but I heard this on the radio yesterday. Apparently, he’s trying to end the income tax reciprocation agreement with Philadelphia (at least, possibly all PA and PA localities).

Well, the city of Philadelphia was very happy to hear that. Now Philadelphia can collect the 4.2% wage tax on all the New Jersey residents who come in to Philadelphia to work. Almost no one goes from Phila (or PA, relatively) into New Jersey to work. Apparently, he became so fixated on the taxes he wasn’t collecting from Pennsylvanians, he didn’t realize how much he’d loose from his own residents.

Of course he could always just let Philadelphia hit his people with a wage tax and so could New Jersey. I’m sure a Democrat wouldn’t have any problem with that…

More McGreevey info. In the face of these "dire fiscal times" that are "forcing" him to raise taxes, he has announced that the state will accept only union bids on contract work for the state.

That will send state spending on an upwards spiral, while greasing the palms of the leg-breakers who backed his campaign.

No wonder Donnie DiFrancesco feared a Schundler win so badly. The state corruption coffers are filled to the brim for the slimeballs in both parties.

A police academy class of one

Wednesday, March 27, 2002
Associated Press

TRENTON - State police Superintendent Joseph Santiago has reportedly "graduated" from the state police academy. Santiago was the only member of a specially created class at the academy, according to New Jersey 101.5 FM.

The radio station reported Tuesday that Santiago, whose nomination was strongly opposed by police unions, earned the right to carry a badge, wear a uniform, and assume the rank of colonel. Santiago did not actually attend any classes at the state police academy.

Several troopers said they were angered by the news and that it was a breach of protocol. They also question why two troopers close to Santiago were promoted while other promotions have been put on hold.

State Sen. Peter Inverso, R-Mercer, challenged McGreevey to explain the action.

"From all indications, this alleged action appears to be a blatant attempt to ignore the current high standards in place for state police personnel," Inverso wrote in a letter to McGreevey.

During an interview broadcast Tuesday night on 101.5, McGreevey said he had asked Santiago earlier in the day for an explanation. The governor declined to comment until the superintendent offered his report. Reference

This is just the same smoke and mirrors that Reagan used to pay for his tax cuts, and no one objected then. You don't raise taxes, you simly tax more things. As an example (as many are about to find out), unemployment was not taxable until Reagan, now it must be reported as income, that's one of the ways they made up for the revenue lost to his tax cuts. No government ever shrinks no matter who is in charge.

Hey, maroon, Reagan slashed personal income taxes, and the resulting increase in productivity grew the economy so fast that total federal revenue DOUBLED!

Your government school edukatin is showing.

Letting people keep more of their own money grows the economy; confiscating it shrinks the economy.

It's not a zero-sum game, if you know what that is, which I highly doubt.
