What more could you ask for?
Well, a fully pro-life stance, a la Bret Schundler for starters. I'd also like to know if he supported the good Mayor in the last election, or if he stood on the sidelines. Finally, on the homo-promo issue, I'd like some stronger indication that when push comes to shove and the homos start demanding the same kind of crap in NJ that they've been doing in California, Vermont, Hawaii, and Massachusetts (infiltrating the schools, trying to get a 'gay marriage' bill passed, etc.), this guy will not be afraid to stand up to them.
In short, I'm wary of his positions on the social issues. I won't support another Christie Whitman.

Sorry, my fault. I forgot he was running for US Senate, not the governorship. However, the same concerns still stand on social issues that may come up before the US Senate. I'd like some certainty that this guy would vote for pro-life/pro-traditional family judges.

Donnie Defiasco is the leading pimp of the election industry in NJ. He did very well when Jim Tax Florio was governor. He was retained "of Counsel" for several political plums, and :
1. State Senator
2. Attorney for the Union County Utilities Authority
3. Attorney for the County Vocational School
4. Attorney for 2 Municipalities.
5. Attorney for the Essex County Utilities Authority (while Treffinger was County Executive!)

NEW JERSEY RIGHT TO LIFE PAC ENDORSES STATE SENATOR JOHN
MATHEUSSEN FOR U.S.
SENATE
April 11, 2002
New Jersey Right to Life PAC, the states largest pro-life political action committee is pleased to announce the endorsement of State Senator John Matheussen for U. S. Senate. Marie Tasy, Director of Public & Legislative Affairs for NJRTL PAC, said that Senator Matheussen is the only pro-life candidate seeking the Republican nomination to oppose Bob Torricelli in November.
On the only issue that matters to pro-life Republicans, Senator Matheussen offers voters a clear choice. Unlike the other candidates who are trying to confuse pro-life voters in order to win a statewide primary, Senator Matheussens positions on matters concerning human life are well known.
A Senator must be a leader and the citizens of New Jersey deserve to have an honest representative in Washington, D.C. like Senator Matheussen who will work with President Bush to protect the most vulnerable members of our society, said Tasy.
Senator Matheussens legislative record demonstrates his long-standing and comprehensive commitment to defend and promote the sanctity of human life. As State Senator, Senator Matheussen sponsored and voted for many popular laws to protect the health and lives of women and children, including the NJ Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the NJ Parental Notification Law, the NJ Safe Haven Infant Protection Act, the Parental Notification Constitutional Amendment, Megans Law, and the 48 hour Maternity Stay Law which promotes good health care and parenting for new mothers and their babies immediately following childbirth.
Senator Matheussen is the only candidate committed to working with President Bush to help restore a culture of Life to our society, ending the heinous practice of partial birth infanticide, and enacting a complete ban on human cloning, said Tasy.
Ms. Tasy said, As the only pro-life candidate for U. S. Senate, Senator Matheussen will be the recipient of a strong base of NJ voters in the primary and general election. NJRTL PAC will utilize its various resources which include phone banks and mailings to identified pro-life families throughout the state to inform voters about Senator Matheussens pro-life position.
Paid for by New Jersey Right to Life PAC, 49 Alden Street, Cranford, NJ 07016, Faith Willis, Treasurer. Not authorized by any candidate or candidates committee

Truth be told, I have never heard of any of these candidates other than Gregg. I have received exactly two pieces of campaign mail to date. Not that I am complaining. There seems to be no energy for a campaign or anything else here in NJ.....we are still recovering our equilibrium from 9/11.........
For the first time ever, in over 40 years of voting, I will miss a primary and then vote for the Republican in the election.

How about that guy that ran for governor?

"I'll vote for whoever Bret Schundler endorses, assuming he makes choice. (I hope he'll at least make a private endorsement here on FR...)"
I'll also endorse any Schundler pick.

You've beaten me to just about every point I've wanted to make. Need more coffee.
I and alot of other grassroots conservatives ditto these sentiments, A.
To: Antoninus
Well, a fully pro-life stance, a la Bret Schundler for starters I'm with you. None of the other candidates are real republicans anyway and don't stand a chance. Rinos don't bring out the Republican vote. I think if the party backed a true conservative we'd have a shot. Bret Schundler has national name recognition which the other candidates do not have. If only he could get an endorsement from the WH. What do we have to lose? Run Bret run.
