Hundreds From Enron Contact Playboy

HOUSTON, 5:44 p.m. CST March 26, 2002 - A day after Playboy magazine announced it wants to publish a "Women of Enron" issue, hundreds of current and former Enron employees contacted the magazine to find out more about possibly becoming a nude model.

News2Houston spoke with Micha Makowsky, a former Enron employee who now owns her own successful business. But Makowsky said she might consider an offer from Playboy.

"For the right price and the right circumstances, yeah, absolutely," Makowsky said. "Sure, why not?"

The 33-year-old said she was stripped from some of her savings a few months ago when Enron collapsed.

"If it pays the monthly bills, hey, you have to do things to pay the bills," Makowsky said. "So, I have no problems with it."

Playboy said it's interested in Enron employees because they have a story to tell.

"They were working there. We can kind of tell their stories. We can put a little bit of a human face to this," said Kevin Kuster, Playboy's senior photo editor. "One of the things that the company has been founded on is the girl next door. This actually is the girl next door, who used to work at Enron"

"If the money is actually in the six-figure range, she (an unidentified Enron worker) may consider (it)," said Tony Huang, who read a posting on the EnronX.org employee Web site. The Web site has been flooded with responses, for and against.

"Some people, I've heard, are volunteering, wanting to do this. I don't know how great it's going to do for their careers as a businessperson or businesswomen. But you know what, this is America," Huang said.

Ellie Ahmadi doesn't care how much Playboy would pay. She's not interested.

"It just isn't for me. If other people choose to do this, I'm not here to judge them but I wouldn't do it," Ahmadi said. "Even if it were seven figures."

"It would have to be very classy. I want to be able to pick the pictures and not let someone else pick the pictures because hey, this is my body," Makowski said. "This is my rights."

Playboy wouldn't comment on how much the Enron models would be paid.

The Chicago-based magazine said the interest has been overwhelming so far. They say they have received hundreds of phone calls and e-mails inquiring about it.

Candidates who want to pose for Playboy have to meet certain requirements: must be 18 years or older, must provide a photo ID, as well as a shot in a two-piece swimsuit. Women should also send a document that verifies employment, current or past, at Enron.

Photos can be submitted via email to enronwomen@playboy.com.

Photos can also be sent to:

If this story makes it into Arabic, or on al-Jazeera news overseas, no wonder some young kids think we as a nation are corrupt to the core, and would consider turning themselves into an WMD for Allah....

This reminds me of this joke: "A man walks into a bar and asks an attractive women if she would have sex with him for a million dollars. She says ok. He then asks if she would have sex with him for ten dollars. She acts insulted and says 'What do you think I am?'. The man replies 'I've already determined WHAT you are. Now we're just negotiating price!".

Makowski said. "This is my rights."

A product of our government schools no doubt.

Are they offering money for MALE former Enron employees to pose naked, too?

I bet there are male ex-Enronners who need money just as bad as female ones do, and are just as willing to put themselves on public display for money.

Why should only women be permitted to exploit their sexuality?

Because nobody wants to see the guys. No straight people, anyway.

There's a market for it.

Amazing what people will do if a little money is waved in front of their faces (BTW, you can forget six and seven-digit payoffs, who do they think they are, Darva Conger?). For a one-time photo shoot of an amatuer, you couldn't expect more than four-digits.

Corporate citizenry aside, what does this say about Playboy that it must resort to gimmicks like this to find enough naked bodies to fill their magazines? Or attract an audience?

There's far more skin for free on the internet than what you could possibly purchase in a magazine. No doubt it has cut into profits of the nudity standard-bearers.

We are becoming a nation of whores. And cheap ones at that.

I used to read Playboy just for the articles and to look at the faces.

... The fact that a corrupt corporation and accounting firm can spawn a set of nude photo layouts is a great snapshot of America today ... etc.

You're a crusty one, Old Hickory ... well said.
