If both of Halle's parents were black, she wouldn't be so beautiful.

Your comment is very insulting, ignorant and inaccurate. There are more beautiful women than her who have two Black parents.

I might as well make you madder by saying that as a Black woman I am very proud of Halle and always have been. I have two Black parents and she has one, but I consider her no less Black than I am.

It's too bad that the historical significance of Halle's win is lost on so many of you on this thread but I guess you don't like being reminded that race sometimes matters.

Halle's particular brand of beauty is no more black than it is white. Get it? It's a very individual beauty - not racial.

Just curious. Are you then a proponent of the "one drop rule?" Are you familiar with its unsavory history?

My father was half Swede and half German, but he didn't identify as a Swede and ignore his German mother.

It's not the supposed historical significance that impresses me. For months this has been thought of as a done deal according to the Oscar buzz out here in LA, not because of the quality of her performance but because Berry desperately wanted an Oscar for some film, any film, and campaigned strenuously for it. The historical significance only showed up recently in the Oscar talk when the voting began; who could vote against her in that case?

Race doesn't matter when the award is SUPPOSED to be given for talent....not the color of your skin.

White racists in the past used to describe someone as black if they had a single great-great-great grandparent who was black but never described someone as white if they had a single great-great-great grandparent who was white. Funny how many blacks today have the same sort of attitude.

And I consider her no less white than I am - so why are YOU offended by my remarks? Why are YOU proud of her?

race shouldn't influence the oscars....just in case Halle doesn't realize it, she won because she was the best actress. She thinks her win broke a barrier, but you've got to be good, not black, to be nominated. She was good and deserved to win because of her talents, not her color. Ditto with Denzel. Both were deserving actors. I don't see where color has kept anyone from winning/ being nominated. May the best actors win!

That's the problem with you liberal thinkers (and it is liberal thinking), race should not have mattered, only the performances should have. I guess you're also in support of affirmative action, quotas and all of that BS. I believe Halle deserved it, but not Denzel.
