I've also read the contemporary reporting from 1991. The problem is that CDR Stumpf's article repeats, without any critical thinking, the same suspect information that the POW hucksters apparently manufactured (particularly the idea that satellite imaging identified Speicher's ejection seat--there are technical issues on that claim that cause me to raise the BS flag). Also, the article doesn't explain adequately how he would have survived a head-on missile impact that he didn't attempt to evade.
As for the petition: it's a feel-good move, not something that will actually get LCDR Speicher home (assuming he's alive, which I highly doubt, based on the eyewitness reports from January 17/18, 1991).
