THE STATE Department of Education continued its compassionate approach to high-stakes testing yesterday with the publication of a ''multiple pathways'' strategy for students who are denied diplomas after failing the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System test. With enough support, the only thing that should stand between a student and a diploma is individual effort.

-----Since when did being poor make you stupid? Low income is the LIBERALS' new money extraction propaganda tool. The fact is, inferior public schools manufacture ignorant adults who can't get out of poverty and escape the "helping hands" of socialists. They raise generation after generation of ignorant constituents programmed to buy into the lies spewed out by public school unions and the Democratic Party. Keep them dumb, depressed, dependent and Democrat, that's the agenda of the Left.
Community colleges are expert at remedying academic deficiencies.
------As in "rotten teaching!"
It is likely that the Board of Higher Education will allow students to take seats in community colleges without regular diplomas provided they fulfill all graduation requirements except passing the MCAS.
----Translation: Phony grades will get you into college.
Still, federal education officials must be persuaded to provide financial aid in the form of Pell grants, even for students who lack regular diplomas.
----Why even have diplomas? Why not just drop this judgmental bar?
On Monday the business-backed group Mass Insight Education is expected to publish a survey of 140 juniors who failed the MCAS. The students attribute their failure largely to erratic attendance and lack of effort. .......... there is still time for struggling members of the class of 2003 to get on the main track.
----The hell with consequences, give them all A+ and send them on their way.
Translation: Phony grades will get you into phony colleges.
Money is not the problem. Per-pupil educational expenditures in most large cities is around $10,000/year, comparable to the wealthiest suburbs.
How insensitive of the Board to require attendance as a graduation requirement.
Recent reports show the City of Atlanta schools spending around $13,000 per pupil per year. I'm not sure what it is in our suburban county. I do know that $13K is a little more than what we're spending on top-flight private high school tuition, and books and other fees probably drive our costs slightly over that figure.
I hope you're getting more for your money than gay/straight alliances and sex ed from the local Planned Parenthood affiliate.
As I always say, you could give the state of Mass an UNLIMITED amount of money and the kids would still be morons. The above article shows you the mentality that makes it possible in this Un American state.
