This guy was on O'Reilly last week---Bill's annual St. Patrick's Day segment. This year's topic: "Why Do the Irish Drink So Much?" McCourt's answer: The British made them do it. McCourt admitted to being formerly a heavy drinker himself.

Oh, he has every right to say what he's saying, but I at least was taught that rights are not absolute-they all come with responsibilities. Such as the responsibility not to sow hatred of the Armed Forces in time of war, or to denigrate one's own country in a time of crises. Have people actually gone this far sideways, that they can write such evil, vile crap and not be vilified by millions of right-thinking people? This man, and others like him, should be shunned and never again allowed to present themselves in polite society. Exercising his rights whilst ignoring his responsibilities should bring some societal consequences, at least.

I liked Angela's Ashes. He was so bitter towards the end of it. I read 'Tis, hoping he found some peace as he grew older, but he didn't. Basically, 'Tis wasn't any good. I remember Frank talking about volunteering for the Democrat party in 'Tis. I heard Malachy's book was awful, so didn't bother.

I'm having a garage sale in two weeks, and I think I'll get rid of these books. I'm so angry right now, at this man's disrespect of our military. The McCourt family is outta my house! Was this man drunk the day the towers fell? Did he not see it? What an ASS.

Some see this kind of simple minded pacifist doggerel as noble, in a kind of a post World War I-isolationist-blindly ignoring Hitler till it was too late-Neville Chamberlain sort of way. For the sake of America and mankind I hope we have learned something since the last time this kind of idiocy dominated American policy and thinking. It is not an exaggeration to blame the millions of deaths on World War II on this kind of cowardly and self indulgent thinking. As long as we can shake off this kind of nihilistic sickness, we and our civilization have a chance at survival. If not, we will join this sorry tortured soul in the bedlam of cowards, the Purgatory for those who have forsaken their duty to protect their country and families because of their physical fear of danger and pain. Children have more moral courage than this "man" expresses in this sad diatribe.

Some people get them for killing people, other people get them for saving people and, not too long ago , you had to be white and Christian to get any of them at all.

It appears this whiney leftist is either lying,or doesn't know what he is talking about. I wonder how he explains one of the very first Medal of Honors went to a black slave for his bravery during the Revolutionalry War. He not only got the MOH,but he also won his freedom and was awarded a farm.

There was also at least one black man who won the Medal of Honor during the War of Northern Aggression. He was a NCO,and I think he was from Hampton,Virginia.

Just don't start whining the next time the feds kick in the wrong door and murder a innocent citizen trying to defend his family from what he thinks are violent robbers.Don't complain about what happened at Waco,as "suspiscion of drug manufacturing" was one of the original charges the feds used to justify their raid.

But I saw him a few times on public-television pledge drives, and you'll never convince ME he's stopped drinking. :D

Well,the truth is there were no REAL heroism awards then because we were still a outpost of England,and not a sovereign country. None the less,he was given the the nations highest award for bravery once the war was over,and this was the equivelent of what we call the MOH today. I can't remember what the actual award he got was called back then,and we don't have it now. I remember it was based on him being captured and tortured by the British to try and get information from him. He was the man servant of some important Colonial and got captured helping his master escape. The British figured he might know something about the plans of the Continental Army,so they tortured him to try and find out what he knew. He told them nothing,and he knew the entire plans for the battle of Yorktown. I really wish I could remember his name,as his is a story of incredible courage.
