In War We Trust? It's killing season again (MEGA BARF ALERT)
WESTSIDE SPIRIT | March 14, 2002 | Malachly McCourt

Posted on 03/21/2002 5:04:58 PM PST by COL. FLAGG

There is nothing noble about war. We hand out pieces of metal that have been molded into crosses, stars and hearts, affix them to gaudy ribbons and put names on them like "honor," "distinguished," "purple," "bronze" and "silver". There are distinctions, however: Some people get them for killing people, other people get them for saving people and, not too long ago , you had to be white and Christian to get any of them at all. Regardless ( not that it's irregardless) of all that, the activity engaged in to get these baubles is war-and war means that ther are a number of extremely frightened and hostile people lurking somewhere who want to kill you and, sometimes, in the process of trying to kill you, they accidentally wound you.

Just to be sure we understand what an accident is, let me be clear: It is an unintended event. So when they wound you instead of killing you, it's an accident. You, on the other hand and side, fully intend these these human beings on the opposing side because you have been told they are the enemy, even though you do not know their names, their ages, their gender or the color of their eyes. Collectively, they all have the name "Enemy".

Now you are frightened, hostile and angry because you have been instructed to be.

But you are buoyed by the thought that when you are shot through the eye and yout testicles are blown away, Blinky bin Bush will blink away a tear and you will get permanent accommodations in a veterans' hospital or be buried in the local military cemetary. The funerals are nice, though, with smart-looking, neatly clad lads who salute briskly, carry coffins well, march in slow step and know how to fold a flag to hand over to your retinue. And there will be talk of heroes and heroism and giving your life for freedom, for your country and for all things American (i.e., American Airlines, American Telephone and Telegraph, American Express, American Banker) and for things united--United Airlines, united States Trust Co., United States Steel, United Overseas Bank and all those wonderful business that keep the home fires burning while you go have your arse blasted to hell and other places.

I was reading the other day about a man named Harriman who was killed in Afghanistan, and his grieving wife said he was a good husband, a good soldier, and was so glad to be in Afghanistan and doing what he'd been trained to do for 16 years--to kill people and help our new pals grow poppies so that our poorer neighborhoods can forget their troubles with the importation of cheap heroine. The good sergeant was also a bornagain Christian, just like Blinky. Now the good wife said her husband was a hero and the mother of one of the seven killed recently said her son was a hero and the Bible, which they all profess to be guided by, said, "Thou shalt not kill."

Maybe it means it's OK to kill non-Americans of a certain hue. I was under the impression that the men and women of our uniformed services - the police, the Fire Department, the EMS who dashed into the World Trade Center - qualified as heroes because they sacrificed their lives to save others, but perhaps taking lives qualifies as heroism, too. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

I wish people would stop moaning about the 130,000 jobs we lost in New York City since Sept. 11, and would they just shut up and understand that libraries, schools and early childhood education are not as important to spend money on as bombs for Kabul and war on the "Axis of Evil." I'm weary of old people saying they can't afford medicine and food and complaining about senior centers being closed -- Don't they know there is a war on? If they don't like it, they can go to Iran or, better still, just die.

It's a war for freedom. The freedom to be old, sick, lonely and to be able to die in peaceful poverty. It's a war to allow free-trade drugs for money. It's a war to allow us to breathe pure asbetos, auto fumes, coal dust and chemicals and any and all particles made by good American companies. It's a war that allows the children of the poor the privilege of dying for Blinky bin Bush and Oman Cheney Dick.

Since Blinky bin Bush and the Texiban hijacked the presidency, here are the killings:
Tobacco: 467,000 dead
Legal guns: 6,230 dead children
Tobacco-related asthma attacks: 325,000 children
Osama: 3,200
But then, we know all these will rise as the other war goes on.

However, there are only 1,043 days left 'til Blinky bin Bush and the Texiban return to the killing fields of Texas. In the meantime, God help America and bless the world.

This insightful column is published in paper that is distributed (for free of course) in what is perhaps Manhattan's strongest liberal bastion (which is saying a lot) - the Upper Westside. This guy normally includes a few disparging comments about Bush in his column, no matter what the topic is, but this column is a real tour de force in terms of it's contempt for Bush, the Republican Party, the military, Christianity and capitalism. I bet Michael Moore would just LOVE this column. I thought it was so bad it was funny, which is why I posted it.

No, it says "Thou shalt not murder". Leftists make my blood boil.

There's always a comedian....

This guy doesn't care whether or not we have been attacked. He really doesn't.

On such people the fate of Western Civilization cannot depend.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

It would be interesting if this were in an Earth language.

Bushmill's. Hmm. I figured this was an example of the liberal brain, on drugs. Legalization/Libertarians take note. Do you really want even more of this effluent foulling the countryside?

I'm thinking this is Frank McCourt's brother. Frank won a Pulizer Prize for Angela's Ashes. They were filthy, rotten, stinking poor in Ireland. A very, very sad story. Their father was a horrible drunk. Frank immigrated in the 50's I think, then later his family came. Malachy wrote a horrible book called A Monk Swimming. It got horrible reviews.

This piece of trash article is disgusting and has my blood boiling. I think I'm going to send him an email.

PS: Mr. McCourt.....Governor Bush couldn't do anything to stop an execution, granted by a jury in state of Texas. Oh, I hate that!!!!! Read our state laws and constitution before you trash our state.

I don't know, Colonel, to me it's just...heartbreaking. I bet the SOB feels real sophisticated and smart, too. And I bet his loyal readers all looked at this and said,"Yeah, dude! Those military guys ain't s#&%! Who needs 'em, all they do is kill! All straight backed, with those dumb haircuts and wierd uniforms, nuthin' but fascist natzis, all of 'em!"

If people like this get what they want, people like me will once again face bad-eggers and rotten-fruiters if we dare to show ourselves. Damn them, they're looking forward to it! My God, can't I just fight the freaking terrs?
