Considering that this is an Academia based team, I would have assumed that the "Reds" referred to communists.

In all seriousness, I don't understand why Native Americans are offended by Indian names. I would look upon it as a point of honor when a team is named after an entity. The Green Bay Packers, for instance, were named in honor of the meat packing industry which originally financed the team. I just thank God the the Packers were named in general for an industry, and nothing specific. The "Green Bay Hormels" just wouldn't have cut it.

Now, as a Norwegian American, should I be offended by the Minnesota "Vikings"? Why, certainly. How would you like to have your ethnic heritage sullied by a bunch of crybabies? But I digress.

What is interesting, is that the "Fighting Reds" wasn't intended to be derogatory, but the redskins who named their team the "Fighting Whities" clearly intended theirs to be.

Inadvertantly, the reds have proved something to themselves. In order to be offended by names like "Fighting Reds", "Redskins", or "Braves", etc, you have to be insecure about your race.

There isn't a name you can call a white person that would offend them. Well...maybe, if you called a conservative a Democrat, or a liberal an American.

I thought liberalism was all about feelings. The team name should make no difference...it's the way they feel about the name that counts in "Liberal Land" (good name for a new section at Disney World)

THey were going to call themselves the Brown bay packers, but the gays were offended. Just for the sake of politically correct, Brown Bay, Wisconsin changed it's name to Green Bay. Just a little historically incorrect humor there.

I sent for the info and was going to purchase one, but they added a line to the bottom of the back of the shirt with something like "Helping fight native american stereotypes" (or some such nonsense) so the shirt is too PC for me.

There are thousands of fat black women with butch haircuts on government regulatory payrolls who will close hips to insure that this idea of "fighting whities" will not pass; unless it is independent of any grants and unregulated by some Title or other under the various programs which bring people into power who didn't earn it and may not deserve it.
