Keep them
barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen is your motto, eh? Mental illness prevents folks from knowing what they can do with reason and rationality. She couldn't leave. She had a 'duty' to perform. Her 'family' is irrelevant but Mr. Yates isn't...he
never should have kept breeding, period.
Mr. Yates needs to be neutered at the very least.

[I guess your motto is "When in doubt, make something up] Mental illness
[You should know] prevents folks from knowing what they can do with reason and rationality.
[I guess killing your kids would seem to imply reason was right out] She couldn't leave.
[She was physically restrained? Was that in the court documents] She had a 'duty' to perform.
[She willingly did so it seems] Her 'family' is irrelevant
[Her family doesn't think so now when there is blame to be splattered elsewhere] but Mr. Yates isn't...he never should have kept breeding, period.
[Uhh....she was breeding as well. I guess that whole birds-bees thing was left out of your upbringing] Mr. Yates needs to be neutered at the very least.[So forced sterilization is one of the new liberal causes du jour. Thanks for sharing that]

---that and if he lived where he feared for his life if he made the "wrong decision."That is a good point, and that leads me to another subject. The criminal trials of terrorists. Can you imagaine the terrorists coming after jurors who make the "wrong decision" in their trials?

Mental illness prevents folks from knowing what they can do with reason and rationality. This is very true, harrow.....it's appears difficult, however, for some to understand how much mental illness affects the mentally ill's abilities to think and reason in a rational manner. Their mental illness, the cause of so much torment to themselves, prevents them from escaping some of the agents which have either exacerbated or created much of the problem to begin with. Fear takes over reason (this is, by no means, any excuse to murder).

Appy is in a very provocative mood. I think Andrea could have left Rusty had she been able to after the first kid and the first episode of psychosis. But she was deeply involved in his whole thing,,that crazy preacher and his talk of what good women did, the whole Jim Jones like thing that Rusty was. She could no more have left Rusty than Rusty could see things from her view. She was a sick cookie, and at the end an enraged sick cookie. Rusty is the same I suspect, controlling, demeaning, detached, cold, self-centered, and overenamored of his seed.

Mental Illness is very real,. Most of us take our own health-mental, for granted.
I still think Rusty broke her will/spirit and then the next step was her intellect. After that, my take is that she had been so broken, ill and angered that she destroyed the symbols of Rusty's hold on her and his seed.
Sick and sorry but something to consider,

Anyone who can almost kill themselves and drown the kids is perfectly able to leave. If he was the crazy one and killed the kids, we wouldn't even be talking about her, would we? She would be the victim, even if she was a manipulative shrew.

I think you have just hit the nail on the old head, there, cajungirl.(obligatory "of course that doesn't excuse what she did" clause insert here).
And, AppyPappy, that is a good question---where, exactly, was her family during this??? Sounds like the whole freakin' clan was effed up.
I think it IS our responsibility to step in when we see situations like this happening. If just one person(outside the family, obviously) had asked her how she is doing or offered to help, maybe....well, hindsight is 20/20--we'll never know.
Just want to be clear that it is DEFINETLY NOT, in ANY WAY the GOVERNMENT's responsibility to step in. Please read the previous statement carefully, if anyone has an intention to flame me for being a commie.
BTW, cajungirl, your FR date is exactly one year ahead of mine. :^)
