	Russell Yates misses jury duty to make talk show circuit HOUSTON - After weeks of attending his wife's capital murder trial, Russell Yates was absent on the one day he was legally obligated to be at the Harris County Courthouse for another purpose. Yates was a no-show for jury duty on Monday. He went to New York City instead to appear on NBC's "Today" show in the morning, then flew cross-country for an interview on "Larry King Live" in the evening. In so doing, Yates missed his wife's formal sentencing Monday morning and his 12:15 p.m. jury call. "We saw him all over TV the last day or so, so we know he's preoccupied," said Harris County District Clerk Charles Bacarisse, whose office oversees the jury selection process. "Sadly, a lot of citizens in our county miss jury duty," he said. "It's always unfortunate, but in this case it's unfortunate and ironic. It's completely bizarre." Andrea Yates, convicted of capital murder, was sentenced Monday to two concurrent life prison terms for drowning three of her five children on June 20. Yates, contacted in Los Angeles as he prepared for the King show, told the Houston Chronicle he remembered seeing a jury summons but it slipped his mind. Until Monday, he had been a courthouse regular for months. His wife's trial began in full on Feb. 18 after weeks of jury selection. Bacarisse said Yates, like any citizen who misses jury duty, can call the county and get a date reset. Oddly enough, I find this the most offensive thing he’s done to date. Straight on the heels of his wife’s trial in which he had no problem in requesting other citizens time to decide something that would have bearing on his life, he finds that he can’t do the same for others.

He should be thrown in the slam for a few nights to set an example. Ungrateful b@astard.

Okay, he missed jury duty (this could be understandably, given the fact that he has been preoccupied with his wife's murder trial.....), but to miss his wife's sentencing? He'd rather be on t.v.? It's highly unlikely he "forgot" about that......which makes me think he did not "forget" about jury duty, either.

I watched him on Larry King. He has a new career in mind,,says he has a "unique perspective" because of the last year, he chuckled as he said it. Some dingbat called in all weepy because of her bipolar illness and he positively oozed with sympathy and direct eye contact with the camera. Me thinks he was thinking "another Andrea, now what can I do to help"..Andrea was sentenced yesterday and not one family member who profess to stand by her was there, not even her mother. Russell still sees this whole thing as about how he is deprived,,not one word about his children never having the chance to grow up and live. Only about his lack of companionship and his lack of children.

Having recently done my own jury duty, I can tell you that the jury pools here in Houston are usually picked several years in advance. No one was cruel enough to pick him with his wife on trial, that's just how the numbers came up, and since he got his notice ages ago, why didn't he just call them to reschedule?

Yates won't make the mistake Harding, Baby Jessica's parents, Cato Katlin, Lorena Bobbit and innumerable other dim bulbs have made when their stupidy thrust them into the spotlight. He seems intent on capitalizing with a capital C on the misfortune and tragedy for which he had direct involvement.

PS: I now believe that Andrea was driven crazy and that when she killed her children, she was killing Russell by extension.

This really irritates me. I am being forced (well, not really since I could use age exemption) to report for jury service this week. You are searched, screened and examined too many times because the judges are paranoid. Jury pay is six dollars a day. Not enough to pay for parking or transportation. If you get put on a jury you are forced to eat at the worst places in town and pay for most of your meals out of your own pocket. I make my complaints known every time I go and still get put on a jury most of the time. I doubt if this low life will ever have to report for jury duty.
